Me and my boyfriend both have laptops and share the same wireless connection.

We have Hughes net which is a satalite internet service.

We live in the middle of nowhere so have never needed a password but after 1 and a half years we finally got upstairs neighbors.

I just want to be sure they are not using my connection because we have limited bandwith and it sucks, its hardly enough for 2 people.

I cant figure out how to put a password on my internet either.

PS: when did I become level 4??

If you are using a Satalite service, don't you have service laws of which computers access it?!
I can't find any way to set up a password. You could try using an account with an email and password.

PS to your PS: You become level IV when you reach 750 posts. CONGRATS!

    yep,

    Its pretty complicated

the satalite is connected to a router and the router is connected to an access point.

the guy set it up. The access point is what is actually sending out the signal. the router is belonging to the satalite company.

oh and the access point is a linksys

Ok, is the access point actually another router, or just a thing you plug in an outlet?
1- open up your web browser
    2- Type in 192.168.1.1 A account/password box will come up - default is admin/admin
    3- Go under "wireless tab"
4- Click on the "Wireless Security" sub tab
5- Under "security mode" click "wep"
6- Leave the "default transmit key" as it is
7- Change "WEP Encyrption" to "128 bit"
8- In the "Passphrase" enter anything you want. Make it about 8 characters long
9- Press "Generate" and you will see Key 1, 2, 3 and 4 now have 26 Digits in each. You have now secured your router and generated your WEP key.
10- Now you have 4 keys, you only need one to get the Laptops online. But which one??? Easy. Above where, it says "Default Transmit key" and a number, 1-4. The number that selected is the Key you need to use i.e if 1 is selected use the letters in Key 1.
11- Now you have configure your laptops network to work with the wep keys. Goto control panel, network options, your current network card and enter your wep key

Now everytime some one tries to connect to your service they will be asked for your password.
If 192.168.1.1 doesnt work in the web browser, close all programs that is connected to the internet.

Goto start > run > cmd > type in Ipconfig /all look for the ip under default gateway then use that to replace the 192.168.1.1

Use the edit button next time - Commy
you can also hide your ssid so nobody can see it
just go back up to step 3 and hit "change Wireless SSID Broadcast to Disable"

Yes the access point acts as the router.

    When I type in http://192.168.0.1/

i get my hughes net control panel... its wierd since its satelite. but password isnt an option.

I may have to call the service provider and ask.

just call your internet service provider and they will go through a step-by-step with you to set a pw.

i forgot the pw to my router once and they helped me set a new one.
