How do you know when a program is updated?

    Well, I was wondering how you would know when a program is updated. Does the author do something to the old version to notify you, or does it come up on the forum? Or is it something else?

    As far as I know, the only way to know is to check every once in awhile.

    If the program is coded in VB, I put an update checker in it.
    After the NF.Net authorization process, there's a shout stating a newer version is available. But I don't know if I'm the only one doing this. This same process will also disable the program you have if I need to (Such as an update from neopets and you MUST NOT use the program).
    For SCAR, I didn't bother doing this. But in the download description, I will put the version number and what I did in this release like this:
    V1.1 - Minor change to code (waiting time, credits)
    V1.0 - First release

    But again, I do this, but I don't know about others.

    I always use version numbers, so you can always check if I updated a program or not
