I was wondering how long Neopets keeps IP information in their system?

I have two laptops, one of which doesn't work at the moment. But I'm planning on having it fixed soon and was just thinking of running my AB'er on that one so it wouldn't be connected at all to my main laptop.

It's been dorment for about a month or so. But in the past I logged into it with my main a lot. I may have even created it with that computer.

So does anyone know how long Neopets logs information like that?

I would imagine they never get rid of it.

Hmm.. I'd assume past a certain point they'd delete old logs.

Because I know that after a certain period a person can't reclaim lost accounts because information logs are cleaned up.

That's true. My account was erased after a year. But some stats are still there, BD Record, Stamps, Scores etc.

Yes, one of mine was as well but certain records like pets still exist, as well as the ones you listed.

But to prevent cheaters I doubt they would get rid of the ip address. Not hard to get around with a proxy or Ip hider.

I read the IP hider guide and its all pretty complicated. I can see myself screwing it up or forgetting to do something....

It's not that the account is connected to one computer or another. It's all in the IP address being used.

If both computers are on a shared internet connection, then there is no difference which computer you use.

Make sure you keep the accounts separate, and that you don't access both accounts using the same IP address. Depending on your internet connection, changing your IP adress will vary.

Some people have DSL, which means changing your IP adress may be as easy as turning your modem off and on. Other types of connections are more difficult to change.

I'd need more info to point you into the right direction.

Bottom Line: If you aren't sure... then don't cheat until you have the basics down, otherwise you'll always run a "higher" risk of being frozen.

From what I've heard from others... Neopets stores the original IP address when you register an account.

Your best bet would be to set up a brand new account, on an IP address that has never been used on any account you have. Ignore those other accounts... and make sure your new account is NEVER on the same IP address as your old accounts. If you don't know. Automatically assume those old accounts are connected.

They both run on wireless, and the IP isn't shared with that kind of connection.

And I think, depending on what network I get on on this computer, the P address ocassionally changes. I may be wrong but I'll double check. I have my IP from a few days ago recorded, I just need to pull up the files.

Log onto here with you other computer and I'll tell you if it's using the same IP address

Or you can go to this web page with both computers and it'll tell you if you have the same IP address:

The other computer is broken ATM, like I said.

But I was wrong. XP I thought my IP had changed, but I just referenced the records I had of it form a week ago and it is still the same.

It won't make any difference if your connection is wireless - Marlene is right - your two computers will still share the same connection and therefore the same IP. I have 3 computers connected to wireless (only upgraded last week) and I can still reset my IP by resetting my 'hub' (our version of a modem I guess). I just unplug it, leave it for about 10 seconds, then plug it back in. As long as you reset your IP before switching accounts everytime, they won't be able to connect your accounts.

Proof of this : I had an account frozen last night, but no chain freeze. Just lost a 2 month old side account :D

I was IP banned in the past, like 1 year ago but its not no more, still have the same IP and connection, so I'm guessing maybe 5-12 months max?

Best thing to do is get a IP program that will change your IP . The one I have I can run anytime and get a new IP
