That's................ *passes out* What I find most disconcerting is that any unregistered user has access to the downloads page. (Mind you, they can't download anything). But still. That's an awful lot of money. As was described in our own ToS here, NeoFriends is not responsible for damages should NeoPets get wonky... *shruggles*
Yeah, how nutso is that? With a price-tag like that, who needs to worry about getting frozen; I'd be worried about my bank account getting iced... *cringe at the thought*
I've never really read it myself but I've heard about it and we've talked about it here. None of us really take it seriously. I mean, how many people have you heard of getting sued by Neopets. lol
I suppose you're right. "In other news, Neopets incorporated sued a group of users from NeoFriends.net last week. The ages of said individuals range from 7 to 43 and they are each being sued for an amount no less than $500, but in some instances, up to five million dollars. More on this during the 7 o'clock news, but right now, here's jimbob with the weather. Jimbob?" Not what I'd consider good publicity for Neopets... lol
Agree. Im wondering how many ABers are detected in Neopets.com per day, & how is it even possible for TNT to sue everyone of them? Not to mention other users exploiting autoplayers, snipers or such. One more thing, i don't think this agreement is fair, in terms of any online gaming related laws
Good point Weldn, regarding the fairness. Does WoW have any such thing in place? Maple Story? Runescape? It would be interesting to find out if any other games have ginormous monetary penalties (that they probably won't use) in place regarding cheat/h4x.
They wouldn't have been so desperate for money with their lame merchants if they can get 50 grand easy that way. I think that bit is probably to scare people, and i'm sure a lot of people out there believe that so they don't cheat. Possibly little kids.
Oh wow, that is a lot of money. If they start following through on that threat, I just may have to be legit...
I can't speak for most other online games but I do know that in FFXI people who sell gil typically just get their accounts banned. The difference there though is that each account is registered with a unique ID, so the only way to get another account is to buy another copy of the game. Added together with the monthly fee, though, I guess its part of how they discourage those who do it. As far as those terms of service go, I somehow have the feeling if they actually did sue people who fit the categories they describe in there, then they would have to start living in the courtroom. Wouldn't leave a lot of time to updating their website. Granted with that kind of income per cheater they sue I guess they wouldn't have to.
wow 50k i guess we'll just shell out our wallet and pull 500 crisp $100 dollar bills out -_-. stupid TNT
Haha good one TNT. Thousands upon thousands of people use programs on Neopets everyday, and if they actually did make us pay them $500 for every time we used a program, they'd be some rich folk XD
Atmos was the best AB ever created (imo). It was out a few years back but the creator supposedly got legal heat from Neopets and had to shut it down.
from what i have heard, that's true: legal heat a court case was threatened, so the site, and the aber, was shut down for public use i am dubious, however, that they would have actually gone to court, although i wasn't around when Atmos was so don't understand fully the heat it generated out of interest, what was so good about it?
I guess I'll be bankrupt than when they catch me.. Immagine the ammount of cash they would recieve if every cheater payed them, that would be like Billions!
