=) I really don't know. On the one hand, the population is becoming more and more in-tune with their surroundings and freedom of expression is FAR more active then ever before. People can send their beliefs and opinions across the globe. I for one, didn't know a thing about atheism until last year. =P Is this making people see that maybe their religon isn't the only one? Or is it just a trend, and fad amongst people to try and fit in? "Anti-christ" and not caring seems to be pretty popular nowadays among certin groups. So, is atheism the real thing and the majority of people actually beliving, supporting and caring for the cause? Or is atheism just another attempt to "fit-in" and protray a certain image?
It's real, I actually have friends who are atheists. There is no right religion, just based on what you believe. If you choose to believe in nothing at all, that is totally your choice. I don't really think it matters anyway in the afterlife.
Agreed, but also there those kids who do want to be cool and is like "OMG IM ATHEIST FEAR ME" but meh, personally I don't think religion is anything anyone should "joke" about.
I totally agree with you, some people do it just to act cool. Like I mentioned above I do actually have friends that do not believe there is a God. That's their opinion and whatever one believes in is definitely no joking matter. Totally agreed upon your statement.
This topic is extremely biased, even if you are asking a question. Their religion is no more fake than yours, or anyone elses.
Um... pardon me... but this question doesn't entirely make sense to me... The definition of athism is 1. the doctrine or belief that there is no God. 2. disbelief in the existence of a supreme being or beings. It is not a "religion" unto itself. Thusly, I would say it's obviously real... there are most certainly people that don't believe in God, that is a fact.
From dictionary.com- 1. a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe, esp. when considered as the creation of a superhuman agency or agencies, usually involving devotional and ritual observances, and often containing a moral code governing the conduct of human affairs. 2. a specific fundamental set of beliefs and practices generally agreed upon by a number of persons or sects: the Christian religion; the Buddhist religion. Thats the definition of religion. A belief is an idea you have about something. Believing that there is no cause to the universe, is a belief about the cause of the universe. Meaning that athism is a religion.
It says a specific fundamental set of beliefs AND practices. Aetheist simply don't believe in God or a higher being. Period. End of story. There are no rituals or practices to being aetheist. But the glory of opinion is that each is entitled to their own. And in my opinion atheism is not a religion.
I agree that they have a "belief", so to speak... they "believe" that there is no Godly entity, that however doesn't constitue religion. Edit: I don't 'believe' the moon is made of cheese either... doesn't mean I'm 'practicing' a religion, now does it?
Fine then don't call it a religion. Afterall words are only variables. For all it matters you can call it pujhbgsddglk. Howevor, the basic reasoning being debated does not change. Practicing something means to do something. Thinking is an action, and thus you can practice thinking a belief.
It makes perfect sence. =P Where are you confused? An action is doing something. Thinking a though is an action. Therefore, you are practicing a belief. Not necessarely out LOUD by SAYING your belief, but you are technically still practicing it. Does that make things any clearer?
Exactly. If you don't believe its as simple as that. And for those who go around posing they are fake, yes, but you cannot say Athiesm is fake because whether it be from traumatic experiences or just a loss of faith, people don't believe.
I really dont see how this is even an arguement. Who would possible fake being atheist. I'm atheist, but if i wasn't i would just say so...i can't even find motive to lie about that.
People have there reasons. Right now, especially in high school, people go around shouting "ANTI-CHRIST!" and whatnot, because it protrays an "image" of I don't know... dis-regard? Lack of respect? "Rebel"? and so on. =P I go to a Catholic school (not by choise mind you, I still am not sure if I truly belive in god or not) and I had a friend from a public school who walked me to my bus-stop once in a while. Every. single. time. He would yell "ANTI CHRISSSTTT!!!!!!!~", stick out his toung, hold up the rock sign and run away. I'm not friends with him anymore. But, my point is... people do belive it can show some kinda disrespect for athority.
But... I wanted to win.. *cries* No seriously... I'm not trying to say that an atheist has no beliefs.... everyone believes in something... I'm just saying that you can not call something religion based on that fact alone. Refer back to my, 'The moon is made of cheese' statement. Now if you have a group of people who merely believe that the moon is made of cheese.. but have no rituals or practices.. such as.. say.... worshiping the cheese moon, you can't very well say that is their religion. Generally, religion is viewed as a practice in which one believes in, and worships SOME FORM of higher power, an atheist believes in no such thing. Now, if you're talking about a person that believes that there is a possibility of some kind of God or higher being, but doesn't believe in any one specific religion, and/or believes that all religions are equal, that's called being agnostic.. not atheist. And on another note... this could be merely opinion.. but if one doesn't believe in god.. then it stands to reason that they wouldn't believe in Satan (The Anti-Christ), or anything in the bible for that matter. I don't think you can really believe in one without the other. So for someone to "fake" being "atheist" as you put it is something that I would say is just for attention in this instance.
I don't believe in god... does that make me cool? Um, no? I wanna make my own cul... I mean religion called Jayesness... anyone want to start worshiping me? Kls, I think you are right... if they believe/worship Satan isn't that satanist?
