Okay so my problem is simple... For some strange reason over the last week or so I've noticed my internet speed is incredibly slow compared to normal. I just did a bandwith speed test and it verified my thoughts. I'm only getting 0.40 mbs sec.. And my upload speed is 0.37 mbs sec... My Download speed is errr.. at least 1mb short of what it USED to be... I've checked my plan and I'm not at my download limit.. so I'm not sure whats going on. It's freaking annoying! I've cleared all my cookies.. Temp internet files. Rebooted my computer AND router/modem. I'm just not sure whats wrong... Any issues that may be causing this that I can look out for? The missus works for the company which we get our internet through... So I'm going to get her to see if its ISP related or not. I can't imagine it being that though.. surely they'd have notified their customers if having problems.. OR Staff at least (P.S Yes I know those are slows speeds anyway.. but We are very unlucky here in Australia.. we get ripped off. Pay alot, get shit speeds.... they dont have lines that are capable of any faster where i live .. although its advertised as 8mb connection.. I've never had even close to that.)
mb means megabit when you talk about networking, not megabyte. 8 bits in a byte So technically they're advertising 1 megabyte/s connections Anywho, I can't see how it could be a problem on your end. Must be your ISP's fault :/ Or if you have wireless, a neighbor or someone could be using it.
since we're talking about internet, i have an issue too.. everytime i torrent, my modem keeps resetting...it never happened before...
Zer0 - Aaah.. that would explain my normal download speeds of 1.4mbs Aaanyway.. Not wireless. I have it set up for wireless but I've got it passworded and I've checked any in-coming connections.. all that shows is my Printer, PS3 and my Computer. So its not that. I've sent an email to the ISP Customer service part - And im getting the missus to speak to her people at work today. hopefully it can be resolved. It's freaking annoying. As for your problem patty...I've got no idea?
Well I fiddled and found something that must of been the cause because my speeds are back to normal... I had a filter from my phone line to my modem, but no phone running from that filter. It was not needing to be there and once I removed it my speed was normal. I also got the ISP persons to reset my modem connection manually so it turned it off from their end, then back on. My upload sped is now faster too Just figured I'd share that info in case anyone else has similar problems. Check for damaged/old filters or dodgey wiring Replace or remove and then see if its fixed
And its probably not always the ISP's fault...if they happen to have an overload on their side then not much can be done on your part let alone on their part. And Im sure their speeds that they provide you are dependent on how much everyone else's usage who are under the same ISP of yours.
