Made from scratch, no tutorials, no images just me, the pen tool and a tablet of colours.
Please tell me what you think and what I could improve.

    well...it looks good...but it's colour is a bit metalic.

and those "lines" will need to be split up not joined together.

and in the end...NICE JOB :yup:

they are split up, see those layers in the front tentacles folder? each one of those is a tentacle in the front section.

The colour is too metallic, im having trouble getting the balance of transparency and realism and keeping it underwater, ill try to recolour parts.

Oh! That's neat ^_^ How long did it take you approximately?
Are you using a graphic tablet? Hm. I love your coloring skills.
Both versions look good to me ^^ Though I agree the first one is kind of Metal-Jellyfish-ish...Yep.

Nope tablets scare me :| I don't think i could use one.

It took about 3 hours, if i had known how i was going to do it and whatnot i could've shortened the time it took.

Oh wow. This is reallyy nice... ^__^
The second one definately looks more natural, but I think that when shading, try to use warmer + colder colours for light and shadow... For instance if you're using warm light, make your shadows a cooler tone, and vice versa.
    Overall it's amazingg. *_* You're so talented. <3 *Envies*

WOW :| i am stunned. u did all that from scratch? truely amazing. but i agree that there is a certain matilic tone to the colour that should be rectified. but what can u expect from something that was done from scratch?
    amazing job!!

Thanks, its the nature of the colours which is the problem, normally I would just saturate it... but because of the way the layers work and its transparency this just turns it into a block colour.

what about an overlay layer or something? just tint the colours you already have, rather than changing them? =/

like.. if you take a new layer, and just draw in with one colour where the light would be, then set layer style to lighten, and then play around with opacity, it would give off the feel that it's more alive, and the light is reflecting off certain things around it.

    i'm not sure if it's what you're looking for exactly.. ^^;;

I don't know if this is what you meant... but I updated the top one to try and add waterish reflections. I can't make up my mind on the outcome.
