    Seriously who here thinks topics are sometimes locked a little too much or a little too early? On some boards, theres only one or two open topics... but what really gets me is that sometimes most of the locked topics are /on-topic/ o_O;;

    anyway, anyone care to vote?

Well I think I just came up with a motivation :p
Sometimes I'm actually scared of creating or replying to a topic for not being sure if it's in the right forum or if it's gravedigging. Usually it is, but it feels so humiliating getting that "Dont gravedig" message inside your message :p
Especially when you reply to something and then notice that you just gravedug (?) and you think "crap!". :p

exactly >.>. I think its a /AWESOME/ idea to lock them to prevent point hoarders, but really...sometimes the mods lock them after a few hours of no replys o_O. like on the neo dicussion on general chit chat....you cant really chit chat xD.

that's not true... topics are only locked if the last post is over 3 days or if someone gravedigs by posting on a topic that the last post is over 3 days.

The idea behind not gravedigging is to keep the topics current... and if you look in the suggestion forum... you'll see this topic has been brought up numerous times.

And it has very good intent, but i jsut dont beleive the forum is active enough in some places for this rule. Because sometime to keep it current, you have to have topics open, but some forums dont get viseted too often, like the runescape forum. and only a few (2 or 3) topics are unlocked at once. maybe the admin could make the gravedigging dates forum specific?

in certain forums the rules are a little lax when it comes to gravedigging like in the help forums... but that is only if those posts actually contribute to the discussion.

Posting things like "nice program"... or "i'll get that when i get the points" don't qualify as a contribution.

So... for "consistency" we apply the 3 day rule.

As for some forums not having any topics open... then that shows there's not much interest in the subject and in the new forum they shouldn't be included.

This afterall... a site dedicated to neopets.

No, it keeps topics current, so someone doesn't bring back a topic that's like 3 weeks old. Works for me at least. If you really want to talk about a locked topic that badly, just make a new thread about it.

Because there was already another topic posted, that was still open, on the same topic.

My vote is sometimes, it depends. I don't think that the locking of topics is the problem. This forum is too inactive.

If the MODs lock a topic it is because it has gone too long without being posted on, which means that in the long run it reduces gravedigging therefore nothing should change.

I voted no, the MOD's have every right to lock a topic as they see fit. I can almost guarentee within the next few days this topic will be another one added to the list.

    :)

I don't know how to explain my stand. I think sometimes there should be exceptions.. I don't know.
