List some of your favorite bands/artists along with a song or two that you think is a good representation of their music.
    I don't care about the genre, I'm a pretty open-ended guy.
    Foreign is ok too

    :)

EDIT: No need to list any mainstream music, those are easy enough to find.

I have lots..but I think Secondhand Serenade is pretty good. More like soft rock music. I mainly listen to R&B so the variety of artists are too much.

For Secondhand Serenade I would recommend the songs Your Call and Awake :)

I like mainstream music, but there's no point in you guys pointing out music that I'm already aware of. Kinda defeats the purpose of this thread if all you guys list are things that I've listened to already :p

Apocalyptica - Sanitarium (Welcome Home), Smells Like Teen Spirit (Instrumental, a bit Rocky)
Binary Star - Evolution of Man (Rap-ish)
Bloodsimple - Dead Man Walking, Straight Hate (err...Metal? Light metal. Sort of)
Bo Burnham - New Math, Perfect Woman (Comedy)
Cake - You Turn The Screws, Sheep Go To Heaven (Alternative? Whatever that means)
Chase & Status - Running, Menace (Drum & Bass)
Dropkick Murphys - I'm Shipping Up To Boston, Kiss Me I'm Shitfaced (Celtic Punk)
Flight of the Concords - Robots, Boom (Comedy)
Girl Talk - Warm It Up... errr, I really can't sum him up in just two songs. He mixes. His first album was not good, avoid. :)
Jedi Mind Tricks - Animal Rap, A Storm Of Swords (Political Hip Hop with a nice back beat)
    K'naan - The Dusty Foot Philosopher (Hip-hop)
Kanon Wakeshima - Still Doll (I wikied because I don't really know. Wiki says Neoclassical)
Loco Locass -Bonzaïon, Liberez-nous des liberaux (Rap)
Ludo - Lake Pontchartrain, Go-Getter Greg (Love Incarnate. Or maybe Pop Rock. I prefer Love Incarnate.)
Maximum The Hormone - Buiiki Kaesu!!, Shimi (Punky Metal)
Mes Aïeux - Dégénération, Ton père est un croche (folk)
Mindless Self Indulgence - Straight to Video, 2 Hookers and an 8 Ball (Shock Rock)
Molatov - Gimme Tha Power, Polkas Palabras (Rappy awesomeness)
Porcelain and the Tramps - King of the World (Industrial)
Puscifier - Rev 22:20, The Undertaker (Trip Hop)
Rufio - Out Of Control (Pop Punk)
Say Anything - Woe, Baby I Got Your Money (Rock-ish) (Just get the whole Punk Goes Crunk Album. Even if you're not into that kind of thing, it is fantastic)
Space Cowboy - My Egyptian Lover (Electronica) (Ft. Nadia Oh, if you want lyrics)
    Steadfast - J'pu capable (uhm...Rap?)
Tiger Army - Outlaw Heart (they have some weird genre that I can't remember the name of. It's only ever been used to describe them and The Cramps in my experience. They're kind of punky Rockabilly.)
Wintersun - Death and the Healing (Viking Metal. :))
Yelle - Je Veux Te Voir (Pop)

I'm not responsible for the content of this message or the content of the songs.
PM me if you want more, something different or to tell me that I have shitty taste in music. I've tried to be diverse, and I know that not everything on there is super obscure. It depends on location and taste. I tried to give some kind of description, but I could be off a little. It's just my opinion. :)
    Good luck.

EDIT: This is totally mainstream, but listen to the song Right Round by Flo Rida and some girl who I don't particularly care about. I like it. =D

Not sure exactly what your definition of mainstream is...but I'll give it a shot here...let's see:

Animal Collective - (Their new album is excellent! Listen to pretty much any song off of that...In the flowers, my girls, also frightened, summertime clothes, bluish)

Girl Talk - This guy is a mash-up artist, so it's hard to sum him up with one or two songs...What It's All About, Set It Off, Give Me A Beat

Joe Satriani - The Extremist (He's kinda mainstream I guess, but he's a beast)

Liquid Tension Experiment - Universal Mind, Another Dimension

King Crimson - Discipline, Red, 21st Century Schizoid Man, The Great Deceiver

There are probably a few more, but I have to go do some work :p

Mine is a lot of electronica, indie or rock. some are explicit too.

Breathe Carolina -- "No Vacancy", "The Birds and the Bees"(explicit), and "Show Me Yours"
Cash Cash -- "Breakout", "Two Days Old"
    Aiden -- "Die Romantic", "Moment"
Jack's Mannequin -- "Miss Delaney", "Hammers & Strings", "Bruised"
eatmewhileimhot! -- "Mother May I", "Two Armed Man"
Forever the Sickest Kids -- "Breakdown", "Becky Starz"
The Killers -- "Bling (A Confession of a King)", "Neon Tiger", "A Dustland Fairytale" (+ all their mainstream stuff)
Metro Station -- "Disco", "Control", "Kelsey" (+ mainstream stuff. not explicit, but most of their song has innuendo)
Motion City Soundtrack -- "Make Out Kids", "My Favorite Accident", "When You're Around"(explicit)
Panic at the Disco -- Anything from the first album "A Fever You Can't Sweat Out". I wasn't a huge fan of the second one
Scary Kids Scaring Kids -- "Faces", "My Darkest Hour"
Shiny Toy Guns -- basically anything. Some favorites: "Le Disko", "Shaken", "Chemistry of a Car Crash"
    Taking Back Sunday -- everything
3oh!3 -- i like all of their songs. very explicit. somewhat of a mix between techno and rap.

Lol, I have a wide range of "mainstream" music so I never get tired. Maybe you just don't listen to that much...but I get a LOT of "mainstream" over here.
