50 game suspension... wow. That's gotta hurt fantasy owners, bad. Since that's almost a third of the year. The best part though is that it's a without pay suspension, so he'll effectively be losing over eight million dollars. ---> The counter argument is that without steroids, he wouldn't be making 24,000,000 yearly. Thoughts?
My take on it is simple - steroids are legal for use in virtually every other country in the world and the U.S.A is retarded beyond belief. There are 1001 things that offend me worse going on in this country that all fall under the category of acceptable behavior.... David Copperfield couldn't conjure a more backwards place.
I don't think this is a debate of whether steroids in and of themselves should be illegal, it's a question of should they be banned in sports. Personally, I dislike seeing them used in sports and do believe they should be banned. Even if they make the game more exciting, something just doesn't feel right if I know (or suspect) that one of the players can't really hit that home run... it was all fake.
Hahaha, this reminds me of so many other things in life... To wit: I'm a trivia whiz.... I have more crap packed in my head than Goldsmith's Village Schoolmaster. Among other things, I've memorized entire collections of Trivial Pursuit cards......... Fast forward to me watching Jeopardy with my family. My extremely competitive and egotistical little brother, upon getting smoked like a Newport, claims that my win "is not real". I wouldn't know all these things if I hadn't read Trivial Pursuit cards, which in his fractured world must not equal a "fair" acquisition of knowledge. I'm also great at video games. No matter what game I lay my hands on, I'll become a master of it. So in Halo and Halo 2, it was nothing for me to go 1v2 against my friends. Then the accusation was "You're looking at my screen. That's not real playing. Real playing would be we all have different screens." Of course, we were all looking at the same screen. But that's not really the issue. I guess what I'm saying is, you are what you make of yourself and there's nothing "fake" in that. And those who cannot will always be sore at those who can. Nowadays it's called hateration (lol) and it's everywhere. People talk crap about the rich who were born into money. "Oh, they didn't do anything to earn it." And? Does that make them not rich? Are they required to validate themselves somehow by jumping through some less fortunate moron's hoops? Not so much. And there are garage-workout guys who do everything wrong for weightlifting that talk crap about guys who do everything right and don't use steroids. A steroid is not a bionic implant that hydraulically lifts things for you. Steroids change a person's body and, used in conjunction with good workout practices, create a stronger or faster person. That someone has a problem with steroids doesn't make those who take them not strong or not fast. If you lifted weights on a diet of green beans and water, you wouldn't get far. On a normal diet, you'd get a lot farther. On an egg-white, chicken breast, healthy diet, you'd get a lot farther than that. And with steroids, you would get farther still. Yes, there's a drastic difference between taking them and not taking them - but in the end, any beef with steroid takers is a matter of either a personal belief against using any substances that didn't come from a farm, jealousy/envy, or just believing that steroids are bad because the U.S. government told you so, not whether they're "really" strong or not. Hah, I just thought of something famous that epitomizes what I'm saying.... "Stupid is as stupid does". There's no "acting" stupid. If you do stupid things, then you are stupid. And the reverse is true is well. If you take steroids and lift hard and eat right, then you are a mighty person in the end.
I've never been a big fan of Manny even when he played for the Sox. So I think he deserves this. He's always kind of been a shlub this just further proves my point. Why would you, as a professional sports player, allow your doctor to inject you with something you didn't know what it was and didn't check with the league to make sure it's ok... +1 for stupidity to Manny
It's Manny being Manny :> Okay. My new favorite player is Evan Longoria. There's no way he's on anything, right? ;_;
I don't know. I think he's probably still pretty safe. They usually don't start using until they're in their 30's and past their true prime so they might be able to stretch out their Prime years and seem more amazing than they really are.. *cough*Clemens*cough*
