Tom drove about 275 km/ day to Calgary to visit his brother, Bill. When he reached Calgary, he stayed with Bill for 3 days. On his way back to Vancouver, he drove about 110 km/ h for 5 hours each day. The total trip was about 2200 km. How many days was he away from Vancouver
WEll presuming he took the same route then each way will be 1100km 1100/275 = 4 days 1100/110 = 10 days (3day stay over at bills) 10+4+3 = 17 days away from vancouver
You have to make an equation for this type of problem. Notice that the first one says 275km/day and the second was 110km/hour for 5 hours a day. **edit** Let D represent days 275(D)+550=2200 =6 days 6+3= 9 So 9 days total.
I think you've got the right idea, but for your second division, he drove 550km per day, not 110. So it should be 1100/550. Unless I'm not reading it properly. So it'd take two days instead, assuming the trip each way was 1100km. I'm not sure what the question is asking. If he was just about to start his trip back to Vancouver, he was 2 days away. I guess there's no speed limits...110km...pretty fast. So his total trip would have been 9 days. You said the total trip was about 2200km, which means...he's already back in Vancouver. So 0 days away.
