Well, I have suggested this before, and I will suggest it again (because the old thread got wiped )

MIDDLE MAN!

A middleman is someone who prevents scams while trading accounts, services, and real life cash for RS . This is how it works; Your buying an account for 500k, the person gives the middleman the account details, he logs on and checks the recoveries are unset, he confirms they are unset, you give him the 500k, He tells you the user+pass of the account, You log on, set the recoveries, change pass, middleman gives 500k to the seller. Middleman are trusted members of the community, they won't scam you.

So, whacha think?

 

Hopefully it would save some headaches. One problem I see though is that it's work to check the accounts and the middle person might want to be payed which would increase the cost of the transaction. Maybe you could get around that by using a automated middlebot service. If it were hosted on neofriends people would probably trust it.

 

Well, people like me, would offer MMing services for free.

Just for the record, I have been keeping track of my total money MMed. I'm a mod on http://www.rsunlocked.net/forum, and here are my stats:

Total MM's: 12
Total Money Transfered: 20Million Runescape Coins

(2m Runescape = aprox 1.2m NP)

 

I think that's what the mods are for.

I think people will trust a mod over a self-titled middleman unless the mod titled them or something..

I agree. Users should be aware that all they need to do is PM a mod to middle man for them.

Good idea over all, but maybe only members with a very good track record here should be able to do it..

 

i would suggest mods, levels 3's and maybe people with the "trader" award

 

I wanted to make a phpBB3 mod just for middlemesn. This enable someone with middlemen powers be able to set up a private chat box with 1 or more users and himself. This way there is solid proof of a scam and can be caught and delt with easily

 

That sounds like a good idea, but is that really any different to having a three way chat via MSN? This is a genuine question by the way. I really have no idea. PHP sounds like tomato ketchup to me

 

I think MMing should be left to just the Mods. That was if things go pear shaped it would be much easier to get you're cash back.
