My ISP just sent this in the mail: Dear ~ Customer: As a valued subscriber to our 1.5 Mbps broadband Internet service, you will soon be receiving speeds of up to 4.0 Mbps at no additional charge. This upgrade, scheduled to occur over the next two weeks, will be automatic, so no action is required on your part. ~ is committed to bringing you the latest in telecommunications technology, and we are excited to announce this upgrade to your existing broadband Internet service. Bla Bla etc. Does anyone else think this is a foreshadowing of a hike up in my internet bill very soon? :| I know they say at no additional charge, but I have a feeling rates on the package I have are about to go up.
They won't hike up your change. Your provider is doing this because they have most likely lost customers to competitors, and are trying to stop that. Most likely, your speed will just not change (notice the up to). They might reach that speed on occasion, but will probably average just slightly faster than usual. Also, no need to include "lol" to the title, unless there's some big joke in this which I'm completely missing. Hope this helped.
Aw, kinda harsh. But I agree with this Don't worry, your provider won't put up your speed with an extra charge unless they say so. And remember, you have your email to prove this
I don't suppose you live in Australia by any chance? Low (relative to the rest of the world anyways) internet speeds just scream Australian internet. My friend received an email like this and a few days later, got bumped from 1.5mbps to 8mbps free of charge. They also upped his download quota at no extra cost. This is with the largest isp in Australia, so I doubt it was an act of good faith to retain customers.
...Optus by any chance? I know their speeds have recently "gone up". However, my mum has optus and I've not noticed any actual change in her speeds. She does get more downloads though... Apart from that, Agree with everyone above. Doubt there will be any extra fee's. Remember, the email says none. And you have a contract which cannot be broken. As long as that says they can change the price at any time without notice then you're fine
Yeah it's optus. One of their home budget plans aswell :S Oh well, free things for no catch, can't really complain for him!
Check out your contract (please say you kept it!). Look for any clauses that say about changing of prices, if there isn't one then they cannot legally change your price until the end of your contract (usually 12 months from when you first took it out).
