So, i have a choice...i can either finish school...only one year left...or quit and get a job...the problem is where i live its not very hard to get a job...but my step-dad made it through college and everything with the diploma and he is only working at wal-mart...so thats why im thinking i should quit and just get a job...because a high school diploma is going to get me no-where if a college diploma didnt get him anywhere.
If you ask me a high-school diploma is very important if you ever want to get a serious job. If you give up school, then there aren't many jobs left to choose from.
if you finish college, and get a degree, then the whole world opens up for you. You don't necessarily have to stay in your location.
Definitely stay in school, go to college and get your qualifications. Even do higher education if your up to it. Otherwise you'll be stuck in a dead end job for the rest of your life wondering, what if... ?
But my step-dad went to college and got a degree...and he is still stuck working at wal-mart stocking shelves
If I were you, I'd definitely stay in school. Getting a diploma really opens up things in life, especially as you get older. In the case of your uncle, I'm not sure. Perhaps it's just an anomaly?
He's my step-dad...and i dont know....i believe he graduated from one of the best colleges around he and hes still working a dead-end job at wal-mart
what kinda of degree? and well with the recession and everything....it might just be luck (when did he start working there)
I dont remember what kind of degree...but he started working there because no other place would hire him...before all this stock market and bank stuff
School is a shelter from the current economic situation. Finish high school, go to college, go to grad school. By then, the job market should be in much better shape.
Yea it might...but i got offered 2 jobs as soon as i turn 18...one for 15$ an hour and another easier job for $9 an hour...Both said i didnt need a highschool diploma to get the job...so im still considering it.
Why take those when you can make much more with an advanced degree? If you don't get a college education, you're selling yourself short when it comes to job advancement. It may seem like a good idea now, but when you're making around the same money 5 years from now, it'll look much worse.
Yea i see where everyone is coming from...i dont know yet though..im still considering it.... Btw, i just got lvl1!!!!!!
I agree with this. You also have to combine the fact that in today's society, the majority of people that are looking for high paying jobs will be those that have a diploma - and even those with a diploma may start competing for this mid-paying jobs. Combined with the fact that as you age, there will be those people just like you, and you may not have the job security you would like to have in the future.
You should definitely without a DOUBT finish high school and go to college. You might be able to earn $15 an hour now, but what about twenty years down the road, when you want to get married, have a family, buy a house? You'll have bills; things you want to buy. Working 8 hours a day, 5 days a week= $33,000 a year IF you work EVERYDAY for eight hours. It may seem alright for now, but that's not even enough to pay for mortgage, car insurance, house insurance, air conditioning, heating, electricity, plumbing, phone, internet, gas, food, etc., not even mentioning things you'll want, like a computer, clothes, cell phone, yada yada yada. What school did your step-father go to, if you don't mind me asking? His major may be one that doesn't have a generous job market, especially in this economy. Or maybe he doesn't have good people skills, or he can't find a job in the area you live. If you go to school for something like pharmaceuticals, or computer programming, you are almost guaranteed to get a decent-paying job in any economic climate. Education is growing more and more necessary. The number of college graduates has skyrocketed, meaning those without are increasingly disadvantaged. Considering your family's economic situation, I think you have a good shot of getting substantial financial aid somewhere. Or, go to your local community college, work your ass off for one or two years (and I mean WORK), and then transfer to a good full four-year university and finish your degree. This enables you to end up graduating from a good college even if you wouldn't be able to get in with your high school grades. At the very least, finish high school and get your GED. After all, you've already done three years of high school-just one more year gets you a diploma that really widens your career choices.
Cody just stick out a year of high school grade 12 is not hard to complete anyways.. that way you at least have your high school diploma rather than having nothing at all. times are tough and just because you get a college education doesnt mean the job world will swallow you in... if you get your high school diploma it will be allot easier to get into a college if you want to go back later on in life.
Um well lets see the bad parts and good parts, bad= leave school get a half-a$$ed job when u could get A LOT more $ if you finish school*college* Good='s finish school more $ better job and if u dont no good will come out of it, Exspecially if u get fired
My it would be easy to find job out there, but look at your father he has been able to find that job after college diploma and you are looking quit your school. It does not make sense. I suggest that you should complete your school diploma and there is only one year left. You can do part time job if find some.
Finish high school. You only have one year left right? I would say at least finish high school if you're not going to go to college....... You'll regret it otherwise.
I wonder if he ever did drop out... (Although I marvel at the fact that anyone can be satisfied with getting paid $15 an hour for life with probably no retirement/insurance benefits when so many other options are available for another 4-5 years of time investment.)
