Hey, so I was just on Apple.com and saw something about the new iPod Shuffle. It uses the earphone control system that the iPhone (I think) first introduced so its really small. I think it's pretty cool. What about you guys?

Hallandale was just about to post a rant about this piece of junk. Here it is:

I think this thing is utter utter GARBAGE.

You can look at it here:

    http://www.apple.com/ipodshuffle/features.html

Take a quick look. If you noticed the GINORMOUS design flaw that I noticed, we can be friends. If not, I don't know if there's hope for us.
    THE HEADPHONES!

That's right. Those. Here's the problem: The lifespan of your lovely ipod headphones is rarely more than a year or so. That's only if you're gentle with them. If you're using them for working out (which is who this microbe-sized piece of junk is targeted to), it'll last far less than that. Oops, the earphone fell out of my ear because it doesn't fit right. And then i stepped on it during my run :(

The flaw is that the ONLY controls for the device are located in the headphones. How stupid is that? Pretty goddamn stupid, if you ask me.
I'm sure replacement headphones will run 40 dollars or so. The ipod itself is only 80.

    A couple other things...

The stupid "Voiceover" software is kind of handy. Kind of gimmicky if you ask me. It says your artist and song out loud? Give me a break. When I'm taking a run, the last thing I want to happen is be interrupted by some stupid computerized voice telling me the name of my song. You have under 1000 songs on your ipod. Are you really not going to know the names of all of them? I have 10k songs, and I know all of them.

SO I stopped this halfway, and I can't remember what else I was going to rant about.

Perhaps the fact that it's so small. How the hell small do you need your Mp3 player? The new nanos are tiny, and they actually play video. Jeeze louise.

I don't like apple as a company. Hypocritical me, I own three Ipods (Okay, only one of them I actually use, and the screen cracked. THe other two I bought hella cheap used off people to practise taking them apart and stuff).

Right now what's bugging me is that the biggest Ipod touch is 32 gigs. It's really NOT that difficult to upgrade to 64 gigs, considering how cheap flash memory is nowadays. I want an ipod with WiFi, but I have too much music for a 32 gig touch. Which leaves me with buying an Ipod Classic. Meaning if I want Wifi with me, I'm going to have to buy a phone with wifi. Lame.

I've never understood the appeal of the shuffle at all. It's cheap but the only reason you pay so much for an ipod is because they are pretty and shuffles are most definitely not pretty. Hally you took the words right out of my mouth when I heard about the talking feature the first thing that popped into my head was how irritating. I agree about the headphones as well I've never owned something that is so damn breakable plus they never say in your ears.

Personally I wouldn't buy the new shuffle. Overpriced but that's ipods for you. I'd pay a bit more and get a Ipod Touch because of its ability to go on the internet.

Another one..? ._. I never really understood the purpose of the shuffle, why not just get a low priced mp3 player that's small and has a screen? D: Though, I like to choose what I listen to :p

Also, the voice for the song name/artist seems like a lame feature for what the shuffle, or at least what I thought, was built for. :X

Yeah- NO. Don't get the iPod touch for the internet- the browser isn't very good at all. There are, however, lot's of cool applications for it.

The Web Browser on the iTouch and the iPhone is actually one of the best on any hand held device. Just because it doesn't have all the features as a computer, doesn't mean it isn't very great.

I think you should just stick with a nano or original iPod.
