Alright guys I have been on sites like this before and its always nice to be able to share the things I know with people that may not know as much. For my first how to I'm going to share with you guys how to run Emulators, or Emu's for short on your home PC / Laptop. Most all gaming systems that are console now of days have a PC Emu counter part that will allow you to run the system on your PC and you can even goes as far to buy a cheap USB attachment or two and be able to plug wired or even wireless controllers into your PC to make the experience that much better. So let's get started. For the first step in this guide we're going to start with something simple to use and just as simple to set up on your home PC, the Nintendo Entertainment System, or the NES for short. This is obviously one of the easier systems to set up on PC seeing as how old the system is, and the simplicity of the system itself makes it easy to set up on any computer. Step 1: The first thing you will want to do (obviously) is download the EMU itself. For a little explanation the EMU is basically like any other program in windows that you would run a simple .exe file. In this file the code has been compiled so that the .exe that you are running will Emulate (hence the name) the system that you are trying to run, in this case the NES. Visit the link below to fine a copy of what I believe is one of the better Emus for the NES system. http://www.emulator-zone.com/doc.php/nes/nesterj.html Now a note here you will need winrar or a file unzipping tool to open this file, there are plenty out there but I would suggest the free version of winrar its one of the best and a reminder to buy the full version every once in a while isn't so bad, compared to how well the program works. Once you have the file downloaded you may extract it to any Dir. on your computer that you like. Seeing as I use a 64-bit version of vista and it already has a game folder I would suggest putting it there so you do not have to search for the folder every time you use it. Step 2: (optional) This step is really at the discretion of the user. The folder name that the program comes with is not easily known as a NES Emu, so I would suggest changing it to something else, even something as simple as NES Emu would be a good name so you can remember what is in the folder. Seeing as if your like me and have over 10 Emu's on your computer it gets very confusing if everything is not label properly. Step 3: Now that you have the Emu on your computer you are only a few steps away from running Ye-olde NES games on your computer. Now All we need are the Roms. Basically in a nutshell the Emu file itself is only the console of which you are trying to Emulate, and does not have any games in the system itself. This is where the Roms come into play. A Rom is basically a copy of any game be it cartridge or disk, in a formatted type that the Emu can read and then play through for your gaming amusement. Now there are many different Roms sites out there, here is one of the ones that I like to use most. http://www.emuparadise.org/Nintendo_Ent ... Numbers/13 At the top of this page you will see the #-Z section to chose the game title you are looking for. So download away. Step 4: Once you have any Roms that you wish downloaded again organization is key to have so inside the NES Emu folder you downloaded in step one make a folder simply labeled Roms. Then, you guessed it take the roms that you downloaded in step 3 and place them in the Roms folder. Final Step: Now all there is left to do is run the Emu and enjoy your Roms. Open your NES Emu folder from step 1 and click the NesterJ icon. It image is a yellow circle with a J in it. Then a small window should pop up for the program. Next simply click the file tab in the top left corner of the program, a drop down menu will appear and select open rom. Again another window will pop up and you must navigate to the Roms folder you placed in inside of the Emu folder and select your Rom, AND YOUR DONE!!!!! Side Notes: Seeing as some people like to play with different keys on the keyboard some of you may want to switch out some of your controls. To do this simply click the "Options" tab in the NesterJ window and select Controllers from the drop down menu, and set your controls accordingly. And that's it for running a NES on your home PC, simple and easy. In some of my later guides I will show you how to run things a little more complicated, like the PS1. :yup: ~Enjoy Everyone, feel free to post your questions here.~ :yup:
