    It should never be banned, and it's more skill than luck. It's how you play your cards and how you bet that keeps you in or out. It's just a friendly game people play to win or lose a little money but most people have fun either way it goes. But to be good, you have to be able to read your opponents like a book. If you can do that, you can make tons. ;)

    You can be good on anything with luck.
    So are they going to ban finding money in the couch when you need it?

    It shouldn't be. It made me very sad when the ban on net gambling went into effect here in the states. I miss my texas hold em. Play money just isn't the same.

    It shouldn't be banned, but it is more about luck than skill.

    well the kind of skill it requires is not really conventional, there's no skill in what cards you get, but there is skill in determining what cards to keep, and what cards to throw away... there's also skill in knowing how to read your opponents which is a big part of poker

    Yeah I know all to well about that. Me and my buds had a huge game of hold 'em. It was a $20 buy in for like 30 of us, I got $200 out of that pot, it was great :D.

    No way! They shouldn't ban it! What an awesome game, and completely fun, if you're not silly about it and betting your life savings, cars and house on a high stakes game!

    I <3 poker.

    There are several skills involved that need developing in order to be good at poker. Just watch Daniel Negreanu in the poker tournaments on TV. You'll see what I mean by watching this guy and his BS detector.

    Oh noes, ban everything that's sligthly addictive because people are too freakin' dumb to care for themselves. :p
    Gambling should be legal.
    And...I can't tell if it's about luck or skills, I don't know how to play poker. >>;

    Why do the government care if its skill or luck? I can tell you the game is about 80% skill, 20% luck. Anyone who says it is just luck obviously cannot play the game well.

    It's pretty much

    Texas Hold Em' = 90 Percent Skill

    Poker = 60 Percent Skill

    Think of all the people that become addicted and spend money they don't have and end up stealing and in prison because of it though.

    I can see both sides of the argument, but would have to say don't ban, but maybe have some kind of regulation to stop idiots becoming addicted and breaking the law.

    Internet poker has, as far as I know, already been banned in the U.S. It's a ridiculous thing to do, as the government should not be responsible for protecting people from their own stupid decisions. If it means enough to a person that they are willing to play themselves into huge debts then they should be allowed to do so without government having to become mommy and daddy telling us how we should spend our money.
