So I just decided I wanted to go to school to learn programming (php, java, c++, etc.) I want a career in programming, more or less on the side of website/video games or something like that. I was wondering if anyone knew what that major would be called? Or what majors consist of learning that type of programming and what jobs I can take that into.
I believe Software Engineers learn how to program too.. but that major is less associated with gaming and whatnot. But yeah, Computer Science major is what you're looking at for game programming. If you want a harder, more intensive major, you should go for Software Engineering.
Well good luck with that =D I'd love to go back to school and do that but I don't have the money or the time now adays
I have a software engineering degree from Ohio State which also offers computer science degrees through their math and business departments....maybe other ones now, too. You're definitely better off getting it through the engineering dept, because the discipline is far greater--especially compared to the business degree. I used my degree to get into production monitoring and control systems working for Rockwell and US Steel. The real-time programming experience would translate very well to game programming.
I don't know where your coming from, but my boyfriend is currently taking a degree in Computer Engineering (Which is basically what your listing above) And he goes to Camosun in Victoria BC. He's very happy with the program, he's in his second year (Of a three year degree) And he already has job offers lined up.
