I have just been elected president for my highschool. Usually the president is of the grade 12 age, but I ran in grade 10 (going to grade 11) and got it. I was woundering if anyone had some advice as to some pointers about leading, well a whole school! Thanks in advanced. BTW this is my 75th post
don't screw up??...i dunno. if the administration sucks call them out on everything bad they do. i absolultly hated my schools principal but what i hated more is no one would stand up to her and say MANDITORY "ethics day" (which would have to be made up on a saturday if you skipped) is a really stupid idea for seniors at the end of the year, when you should be preparing for ib/ap tests for college credit
Congratulations! Advice-wise, be sure to listen to everyone, from the smallest to the coolest, don't make promises you can't keep, try and keep calm and see both sides of any arguments, and don't be limited by what the role meant in years past - absolutely make it your own and expand/lose the tasks as they seem right to you. That's my 2 pence, anyway - I was president of my high school last year and I've been told I did quite well, it's not a hard job if you've got common sense...very good luck!!
You should get ideas from people especially for junior prom and senior prom, which is pretty important for most people, including, so you wouldn't want to screw that up. you can also set up weekly lunch activities such as waterballoon etc.
Just be nice and helpful, and watch heaps of clips of Princess mary. LOL, the waving and good public speaking. Don't get into trouble and be smart and popular. o.o
Congrats! I am was also elected to be Student Body President for next year The things I am focusing on are, making sure to get opinions on things from all social groups, (next year will be the first year we have freshman), so I will be making sure I can make them as comfortable as possible. Im also keeping in mind to take criticism (especially negative criticism) positively, and build off of it. Just remember. You were elected for a reason. Just do your best, and have a great year!
I have one tip: have some enthusiasm when you talk to your class/school/whatever. Nobody likes a boring leader :x or a boring person whatsoever.
Umm congratulations...I think it's really important for leaders to not get caught up in trying to be favoured but instead do what is best for the people (and if you're truly doing what's best, you will be favoured).
try to change unjust rules. We can drink anything in class cause they think there might be alchohal in it, but its ok to drink it at lunch, lol. shit like that that is total bs
Congrats! Had some good friends who made it into student body council (pres, secretary and treasurer). THey had the right personalities - way outgoing and enthusiastic as well as helpful and nice to people. Just don't volunteer your friends for activities without telling them ... Happened to me a few times.
Well, congratulation. My advice is to be humble... as they say... to be able to lead you must know how to serve. Try to be fair with all of the student body... Be straight forward... and don't bent the rules.
Thanks to everyone who posted, seems like you all would make great presidents yourselves! Have a good day!
