I'm bored and I haven't brushed my teeth yet so I'm thinking about when I used to have braces. *shrugs*

Does any one else here have to wear retainers? Do you actually wear them? I had braces for a year and a half but when I got them off, my orthodontist told me I had to wear retainers at night for the rest of my life (if I wanted my teeth to stay straight).

Do your teeth hurt/move if you don't wear retainers? Mine do and I get headaches if I don't wear them often enough. o_O

What do you think of people that wear retainers? Do they look geeky? =p Or is it common now?

Any horror stories about braces or anything?

The only bad things that ever happened when I was wearing them was getting like carrots stuck in them and a few times breaking off the metal things accidentally. Oh and with retainers I've accidentally thrown (or done something to lead to them being thrown) away 3-4 times. (Yay garbage fishing).

well i have to wear a retainer a night and i really hate it its a huge bulky rubber thing and it keeps my mouth open all night so i dribble every where o_O
but the reason i have to wear it is becuase for some reason all the teeth on the left side of my mouth have stopped growing so i only have stubs ( you cant tell unless you were looking ), i dont no why they did this happened they just didnt come through, so whilst my dentist was pushing around in my mouth he found out that the jaw bone on the left side wasnt meeting the bottom jaw properly so i had to wear the reatiner to help push the bone back into place and it did work, ( it was either wear the retainer or have surgery to break my jaw and pull the bone down so all my teeth meet each other, becuase at the moment i have a hole on the left side of my mouth ) :O so i went with the less painful option of having the brace, i dont wear it any more altough i proberly should, i just really dont like it.

and as for horrible stories i dont really want to wear again as my pet pig decided to use it as a chew toy :O so i dont really want to put it back in my mouth with out leaving it in bleach for 24 hours lol

I never had to wear braces or retainers but I have friends who are supposed to wear them every night. And they usually forget and they say that they can feel their teeth moving. Soo, when they finally do remember to wear them at night, they complain about how it hurts.

I had to wear braces for 3 years and now I wear the clear plastic retainers. I don't mind them at all and I only have to wear them for a few more months. I will probably keep them and use them for b-ball lol.

I dislike my braces. They don't really hurt me or anything but they're definitely annoying. They get in the way of everything. ): My teeth are naturally very straight and I never even imagined I would need them, but I do have an overbite and it's pretty huge. I've had them since January and I'm going to have them until sometime in 2012. ):

Since my teeth are straight I've never really had that pain that everyone else with braces complains about after tightening, so I win. :p My braces are actually changing the shape of my face since they've got it pulling my bottom jaw bone forward that's really weird. D:

Well, at least you've only had to wear them for a year and a half ;). I think I've been wearing mine, for, I don't even know, 5 years maybe? With any luck, I'll get them off sometime before I retire.

And I think the braces are making my face look... flatter... Hopefully I don't end up looking like I walked into a wall or something. :p

5 years? Dang...Sorry man. But yeah, braces make your jaw look much more defined. I am so glad I got braces because my overbite was so big that my jaw didn't look right

I think I might also have to get my wisdom teeth removed (while wearing braces...) because they are severely impacted and decided to grow out at this opportune moment. <_< Let's hope the operation doesn't lead to any long-term complications (nerve damage, sinus damage, ARGH).

You absolutely have to wear your retainer. Haha. I lost mine, and my teeth are going back to how they were. You won't have to wear them EVERY night, but at least 3 a week. My friend lost hers too, and her teeth were completely back to the way they were within 6 months.

That's f-ing scary. I've been pretty irresponsible with my retainer usage. I usually go 1-3 days without them, before I feel pain of moving teeth in my mouth. Or maybe it's just 'cause I don't brush my teeth regularly. :yup:

I should go wear them right now.

It is. I had a big gap in between my two front teeth, and it's coming back. I can't afford new retainers, so I'm kind of screwed. :/
My teeth never hurt when they moved though. So you should probably wear them even if they're not hurting.

I got braces a couple of years ago. I got them off, didn't wear my retainers and I had to get braces again on my bottom teeth. My parents were pissed. I got a new retainer for my bottom teeth. I'm scheduled to get my braces off in ~1 week.

Im getting mine off next month, this is my 2nd round of braces and im so fed up! Thanks to my wisdom teeth my teeth went back to the way they were so I had to get braces again and thanks to the new braces I had to get a root canal because my front tooth died. Thankfully I dont have to wear retainers, just a metal string behind my teeth for the rest of my life. Awesome!

i had to wear huge plastic remove-able braces for 2.5 years both to straighten my teeth and correct an under-bite

i hated them but it was so, so worth it. have a wicked strong jawline and killer smile now :)

I wore a retainer for about a year or two when I was elementary, but it was the one that was completely in my mouth so it wasn't embarrassing. It was uncomfortable though. Eventually it came out while I was eating some saltwater taffy.
I do have a friend who wears invisiline though. Can't really tell but he takes them out when we smoke.

Has anyone heard of a "positioner"? My orthodontist wants me to wear one for FOUR MONTHS and I kind of want to kill him right now....
