    I have this laptop: I'M NOT TOO SURE THOUGH; I THINK THIS IS IT;
    http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/in/en/ho ... 44394.html

    And mine came with 3G of DDR2 Ram;
    Referring to my post in the spam corner about my laptop going crazy, my cousin took a look at it and finally realized it was the RAM problem; He opened it up and sure enough the manufacturer put two sticks of REALLY shxtty branded sticks and they're BOTH different brands too..

    So this weekend, I am going to memory express, and getting 4GB Ram instead. Can I do that?
    Also if I want cheap sticks {Around 100 bucks better if less} what should I buy?
    I don't know how I can choose my RAM, my cousin said something about having to pay attention tot he MGHz it runs at or something. It won't go wrong if I just took my old RAM and showed it to the people at Memory Express right?

    Help would be really nice :) I have to install it myself..so I hope I don't mess up >< I really wanna buy it online but i'm scared of buying it, having it arrive, and realize it won't fit in my laptop/incompatible..if there's such thing. It'll be such a hassle; But I really do want corsair ones :/

    For people who don't want to really read, you can just answer the bolded questions.

    Each type of motherboards only supports certain types of RAM (DDR, DDR2, DDR3) that run at certain speeds (800, 1066, 1333, etc). Just make sure your motherboard supports the RAM type and speed that you're buying. If you're buying the RAM in person, I suppose they could let you try out their RAM before buying to see if its compatible (assuming you don't know your mobo model)

    I dunno how to check :(
    But yeah i'm getting DDR2 Ram.

    yeah I suggest bringing your laptop its best that way... if you have your laptop they should be able to help you with almost anything but if you just go with words they can only go so far....

    hmmm, how to answer "what does RAM even do" without sounding either patronising or over complicating it....

    god this is uberly hard to explain simply... RAM is like a fast Hard Drive, the stuff stored on RAM is not permanent, but can be accessed v.v.v. fast, so RAM gets used when you're using games etc to store values that are required urgently, can't really think of an easier explination, sorry

    and when you buy new RAM don't buy from a shop in town etc, hardware is much cheaper online, www.ebuyer.com

    (i think ebuyer should pay me for the amount of customers i get them lol)
