Okay, first things first, I'm a college student. Somehow I got into a good school, which means i always have more work than I can handle. There are a few things I've learned over the years, and that is, generally, you don't have to read English books, the library is the best place to actually study, teachers/professors hate Wikipedia with a passion and will usually grade you down for using it and turn off your internet if you need to write a paper! The first site I want to mention will help nearly everyone doing an English project. http://pinkmonkey.com I've written papers off of this site. The information is detailed to the point it will sound like you've read the book and probably only a quarter of the pages that the book is. The only downside to this site is that it is rather confusing to navigate at first. The second site you should know is New York Times. http://nytimes.com This site has a plethora of useful articles pertaining to nearly every aspect of life! Teachers will adore you for finding articles from this because they are very worldly. Be careful though, its VERY easy to get distracted. The third site I'm going to mention is great for geography, history...foreign policy...hah! https://www.cia.gov/library/publication ... index.html The USA's CIA keeps up to date information on every country in the world...and this lovely little "factbook" has helped me a bunch of times. Even if it was just to figure out why something like a revolution was notable in a country's history. The last site I'm going to mention for now (because I'm in the midst of writing a paper) is a dictionary. http://dictionary.com or http://merriam-webster.com The nice thing about Dictionary.com is that it lists more than one meaning...but if you are looking to be specific, Merriam-Webster is a great resource. These both have thesaurus applications as well, if your writing program's thesaurus is not up to snuff. --- Sorry if I wasn't supposed to post this, but hopefully it will help some students out a bit.
Awesome And don't forget Spark Notes. I use them all the time to do book reports and stuff. Since I well...hate reading XD
My teacher looks at spark notes all the time to see if we are getting all our info from there. Its to well known. however its still a good site if you have a test on a book or something, and need to know what even happened in the book. However I know you all love reading you books and would never cheat. lol "looks at the site we are on" Ok we might cheat alittle
Oh XD My social studies teacher was like 'Yeah, if you don't want to read the book I don't blame you. It is BAD. I am forced to teach it so just go to spark notes, k?' and we were all like Okay! So I use them all the time now XD
That's the thing about Sparknotes...its kinda become too well known. That's also what's great about PinkMonkey. Its not only more detailed, but its harder to spot the difference between people who have read and people who have visited PinkMonkey. ^-^ I told my poli sci prof about it, as a "Hey I found this great site and I'm going to keep up on reading now that I don't have to read English stuff." He thought it was funny and has apparently been promoting it among swamped students.
lol this reminds me of my skool days...... i hated writing essays and reports for english... i always used to use these sort of sites.... lol... gw guys
Classicnote, which is now gradesaver saved my behind during high school. The library at my university has a huge selection of online resources. I use it for journal articles I need to write lab reports and research papers.
Very nice sites... maybe they'll help me a bit in the future... didn't know them until now.... Thanks a lot!
SparkNotes is only useful for practical exams. If you use sparky for any type of written/creative piece, you're pretty much screwed right off the bat. My suggestion is to just simply google up the book/movie you have to do an assignment on, skip to maybe page 2 or 3 then choose from there. Harder to find, harder to spot since most people stop at page 1 on google xD It's saved me heaps of times, try it yourself
wow! Thanks for those! I'm supposed to be writing a history essay over the holidays and this will help so much!
Dictionary.com is only good for essays because of its thesaurus function, able to find a wide range and better synonyms to use, other than that i cant find much use for it. biologymad.com is good for high school students like me (for biology of course). Pretty comprehensive and clear. Sparknotes is too famous already, pretty much everyone knows the info there and i feel its not as detailed and comprehensive. (only have read the To Kill a Mockingbird section, so i am basing it on that solely).
Hmm; great sites ! Book rags is good too but spark notes- ahhh- takes a while for me to get around it
