So as of this posting there are 86 deaths in Mexico and 24 confirmed cases in the United States. How does everyone feel about this? I know my University is very serious about this and is considering taking the plans they set out at the beginning of the semester and sending us all home immediately to prevent it from getting around. However, we only have a week and a half left, so this would be silly. But we'll see. What are all ya'lls thoughts on this subject?

It's very scary =S Just the thought of the danger to all the people. It reminds me of the SARS incident, which was obviously traumatic.

Scary stuff, apparently it's already traversed the Atlantic, we have confirmed cases here in Great Britain too. If it's here, chances are it won't be long before it hits continental Europe. It's begining to sound like one of those zombie apocalypse movies without the zombies, isn't it?

So how does it travel? Do you get it from eating infected meat? Or do you get it by infected people?

Some says it spread through people.
    Some says uncooked pork.
    Some says world ends.

I would imagine it originated from infected meat (and infected meat is still probably the primary source of infection) but if it's like other forms of influenza it can also be passed from person to person in the same manner as the common cold.

It originated from pigs, just like the avian flu. However, unlike the avian flu it made the jump from human-human. And is now a very lively quickly mutating virus. And since it wasn't even expected there are no vaccines made for it.

The report I read yesterday stated that there were 8 cases already in Spain, now 110 deaths in Mexico. Luckily no spreading or deaths recorded here in the States. It's also rumoured to be in Israel and New Zealand. But they are still running the tests for that. I know that Japan is looking to possible cut off all international flights to stop anyone from getting infected. Their Cabinet meets today to determine their course of action.

But it is kind of scary, how it just popped out of nowhere and now seems to be gaining strength.

    103 deaths in mexico
    1 case in france
    2 cases in machester Uk
    2 In Scotland Uk

The flu generally is not fatal and is easily treatable

It acts as a flu ( air borne also)

Its just a mutated flu, nothing to be worried about, the deaths that have occured are due to our unawareness of it.

    Edit: 40 comfirmed in usa.
    Edit: 25 comfirmed in Uk.

EVERYONE outside mexico has made a full recovery.

TBH, unless you're homeless, or live in a dirty appartment with roaches as roommates, you're probably living a good enough quality of life to not have to worry about this crap.

And since everyone on this site has regular internet access, there's nothing to worry about.

seriously, no one should be paranoid about this. just stay clean and youll be fine. and if you're really paranoid (which btw you shouldnt be) then stay away from pork.

and unless you're planning to do this:

your chances of contracting the flu are very low :maha:

You can't get the virus from eating pork. You can get it from human to human contact. So the best thing to do, if you're paranoid is to stay away from people who have been to areas where the flu has been reported.

One of the things that causes many people concern is that humans are showing little to no immunity for it, and on top of that the virus infects young, healthy people. This is a bit unusual compared to other strains of influenza where more older and younger people were infected.
