I was watching the news and this woman wrote a book on how inappropriate the media has become. She even talks about the news making a big deal out of nothing and how back in the day those things would have never made it to the screen. I was surprused when I saw a commercial for jeans where a couple were getting friendly and everytime they took off their shirts they wen't into a time period in their styles. Many commercials sometimes have bodies selling the product rather than the actual product, and its not even a diet commercial. Is the media becoming too suggestive. I don't know.
It has been like that for a long time. Plain and simple: Sex Sells anything and everything. How many commercials use real people, down to earth, no tan, perfect white teeth, not exposing sexy parts of body (too many to list, use your imagination), and so on? Analyze commercials and you will find out a lot of things.
It makes people pay attention. It worked on you- you remember the jeans commercial, don't you? Enough to even recollect specific details. The aim of commercials is to stick in your mind, so you remember that product. And I don't really mind, as long as they don't start to actually use pornography.
I remember skittles and m&m commercials but aren't the m&m naked? Oh, that burns. But I like commercials with animals more although I can't stop thinking about the one with the guy chewing some gum at the airport security thing and starting to dance. I think, I'm going to put that on my phone. Anyhow, I think that the commrcial getting your attention depends on what entertains you. The whole using the body thing just makes me turn the channel. Even if the guy is hot I just don't feel like being bothered. but that cute gecko, priceless.
I couldn't care less what they use in adverts. I don't pay any attention to them the majority of the time. Occasionally one or two come along that I really really like. E.g. at the moment in UK we have a car advert that has a dogbot in it (robot dog) and I absolutely love those.
Oh, if you could find a link to it then could you pm me or post it here. Fan of anything with animals, even if it is robotic. That is a attention getter.
It is true, sex does sell. Back in the early 20th century, even showing a woman's legs was considered too much. But our society changes. People are becoming more exposed to sex at a younger age, younger teenagers are having more sex. As for the ads, i'm sure they are placed at an appropriate time slot. You wouldn't see them in between the Wiggles show. What timeslot was that sexual jeans ad on? And what show were you watching?
I do think things are making news these days that aren't at all newsworthy. Take just the other day, on national news in New Zealand. At the moment the Cocktail World Championships is being held in Queenstown, NZ, so naturally, a lot of people from overseas have come over for it. And being a Cocktail competition, it's an event that attracts partygoers. Long story short, a few of Paris Hilton's "friends" are here for the event. These are nobodies. Plastic girls with big glasses and fake teeth who's achievement in life is being vaguely linked to Paris Hilton. Who cares, right? Apparently we do, because this made nation-wide news, and not because of the event. It was on the news because one of the girls mentioned that apparently Paris Hilton once said that she would like a kiwi boyfriend. Wow. During the story, one of the girls even asked the interviewer if they were going to get back to talking about the competition, because so far it had all been questions about Paris. I was ashamed.
Indeed. Have you noticed how many women that don't have much clothes on are in advertisements It's like that in songs too. Not that I don't like it
The jean commercial comes on during anytime of the day and I think I have seen it on channels like Cartoon Network and news channels.
Well if thy get banned it gets them even more publicity I've seen the Paris Hilton burger advert and it wasn't even going to air over here. Sex Appeal is one of the main advertising approaches there is a list but I've forgotten most of them I remember the good old days was one (family sitting round the table acting like the Brady Bunch)
Its the way to attract grownups. Ads like this tend to attract their attention and stay in their head. Suppose its the most effective way to sell products.
well, I have to say that its not like the media are trying to drown people in smut for fun, as a business they simply follow the profits and regardless of what they say in books and stuff like "the corporation" (though I can't remember exactly what the arguement in that book was, are psychopaths amoral?) they are completely amoral. The best way to change em is to switch off no demand gg Paris Hilton, im pretty sure photographers would rather be taking pictures of ducks or something so they don't have to be creepy stalker type ppl and get abused by drunk/high stars. Then again I have to say wtf is naked news? It's not quite porn its a bit of a strech to call it a real news program.. its just sad that the news is now dominated by entertainment rather than information. I don't think the suggestiveness of the media is a problem either, peers are a far more crucial to shaping your development, Hopefully one day education/intelligence will win out and we'll get some decent widespread media.. but I wouldn't hold your breathe
The media is getting very suggestive, but most people like it like that. Society is too jaded towards sex, and pornography. I mean, have you seen the ads for porn for your cellphone? Woman getting undressed, sitting their covering their naughty bits with their hands... that ad comes on, at like, 1 in the afternoon, and it comes on alot... but sex does sell...
yes indeed but this is one thing that the society must change. Life is not all about sex. There are other meaningful things why arent they expressed as much as sex?
because sex is what a lot of people think about most of the time... they're not interested in the the struggles in Zimbabwe, they're interested in that hot girl/guy over there and wondering what they're like in bed...
It's always been something like that. Somewhere I read it's gotten better or maybe worse. Oh who cares it stinks & its bad anyhow.
