Religion is a very ingrained issue in our society.
Not for purposes of religious imposition, i was just wondering what do you guys believe in terms of the divine and why.

I refuse to believe. There just isn't any point to it. If God exists, he must certainly have no interest in whether we believe he does or not, or else he would intervene in our world to make his existence obvious. Additionally, God doesn't do anything to ease human suffering in this life. A God who is apathetic towards humanity is undeserving of worship, and so I don't.

I was christian (as was all my family) until about 3 years ago, Soon as I started reading and understanding the stories such as adam and eve it never made sense and noone could answer it.

Adam and eve were the first two people on earth. They had 2 kids (both boys) Then one killed the other. And then one finds a wife?! where teh hell did the wife come from?

And if god is real why does he let law-abiding citizens die early and criminals live to 80. and why are there criminals in the first place?!

I've never given much thought to my religion because it usually doesn't matter much to many Finnish people. My mother left the church because of church tax and unacceptance of female priests. (she's one scary feminist)
I've read too much fantasy literature to be a 100% atheist but also too much astronomy to believe in God. So I guess I'm an agnostic.

I'm an aetheist, I'm afraid. I think people are frightened of dying so they cling to these belief systems that separate and divide communities. The Catholic faith is one that has always actually frightened me. If there is a phobia of it, I think I have it. It just seems so corrupt.. Look at the Vatican. They took that money from their followers for what reason? And the ideas and rules they live by are kind of draconian in some respects. Obviously, not all Catholics. I guess I'm talking about Roman Catholics, and again, not all of them, but I'm sure you see where I'm going

There are so many religions. How can peole genuinely think that the one they happen to have chosen/had pushed onto them is definitely the 'right' one?

Religion often just seems like another way to control people who are frightened, but I can see it's appeal. It must be comforting to just be able to say "God has a plan" or whatever and just lay back and let things happen.

I'm agnositc, though was christened both Protestant and Catholic. (My grandmother disagreed with my mother being protestant and took me off to be baptised on the quiet, at least thats what my Dad told me hehe). I went through a phase of aethism, then when I went for my interview at Cambridge, one of the panel questioned my religion and I answered Atheist, to which he replied "you would think that young people of your intellgence would not withdraw from God entirely, but cover your arses, and at least believe in something" and it's stuck with my ever since!

Belief is just that. You can't make yourself believe something. You either do or you don't. It has nothing to do with intelligence, and I would rather be an aetheist that believes genuinely in the lack of any God-like figure, than someone who alters their way of thinking just because someone says "cover your arse" to them.

I didnt do it just to cover my arse, I just thought that he had a really good point.

It is very interesting to ponder on the origins of religion. The primitive people of prehistoric eras might have been prone to such things because they found that the marvels of nature were attributed to the divine. With the advent of science, technology, and analytical such and such, people feel that science has disproved the existence of a god. But then again, there is the conscience that is in everyone that tells them there is something else out there.
I doubt that the conscience is a product of civilization. It is innate.

People are becoming less and less religous, I think in the not so distant future religion will become extinct.

Not really, IMO humans wouldn't be human without greed :D . I think we're naturally evil, its just the way things are. That will never change.

I'm a 'Chrisdhist'. ( I think ) because my mom is a christian and my dad is a buddhist. So, it's kinda suck when you stuck in between. I have to follow my mom to church as well as go to the temple with my dad to pray.

The teachings between the two religions is different too. Buddhist believes that when you die, you will reborn as a human again or as an animal depends on the good & bad deeds you have done in the past. The highest 'rank' in the reborn system is NO NEED TO REBORN. This is because they think that being a human or reborn as a human is torturing as you need to relive the painfulness, devastating and sadness in life. So, it's better off not to reborn and hope that you can go "poof" or dissapear in the next life. In christian teaching, anyone who don't believe the teaching or the existence of Jesus Christ will sure damn to go to hell.

For me, I believe both of the teachings and religions so I do my best not to do bad deeds. I don't smoke, I don't drink and do my best not to dissapoint my family.

I have a strong and firm belief in my religion. I'm Muslim, not the Muslim that you all see on tv, not the terrorist, or the guy that prays five times a day. I don't want to goto heaven, my goal is different. Although I bet many will not read this, this should help a lot of people understand that all Muslims aren't evil. I do not seek heaven, yet I seek God. To go anywhere after death which is other than with God is my hell. What is paradise if you can't go back to where you are from? (By this I mean that I believe each persons individual soul is part of a whole which is God) Who says God doesn't exist? Those without faith. I don't believe the world began with adam and eve literally. There is obvious evidence of the first signs of life, prokaryotes, ect.. and evolution. I believe God had his hand in creating the world. I can not believe the big bang occurred on it's own, I believe God ignited the big bang, creating our worlds. The misconception of Muslims is that we are all evil terrorists who don't respect women at all, which is not true. Women are highly respected in this religion. In those countries which you see women being killed and forced to wear things to cover themselves, well I don't know how to explain that but I know in my religion we do not do that. The other thing about us having to pray five times a day, it does not state in the Quran that we have to do that. Also many other Muslims try to insult me because of that, so they should get their sources straight. I am in a section of Ismaili Muslims. Please do not trash me because of that, I have faced a ton of that already. But yeah I believe in God because of what I see all around us and the beauty and complexity of life. That's what makes my faith.

Also many people "twist" the Quran, because it is said that there are 12 interpretations to each line, meaning 12 ways to see it, one can always use the evil of the situation and say things which aren't really true, agh that's messy and you probably won't understand that but yeah...

Lalala, I bet no one is going to read that xD, but yeah. I am religous and I believe in the future, religions will still exist, because the people who still have faith, and are intelligent, will spread their religion to their children. =D Not saying people without faith aren't intelligent i'm just saying in the area of people with faith, if they don't spread it to their children that's not good for their faith ect... you know what i mean...lol

I'm from Malaysia and there are many people who are muslim. So, it's true muslim is not evil as you all seen in the tv. Women are also no need to cover their face completely when 'she' is a muslim. Women are highly respected and they have the rights to have the best education. In my country, many women who are muslim and who are highly educated can be a doctor, an engineer, a lawyer or even a minister.
