I'll fastly explain what happened ! On my pc, I've got 3 hdd and one connected in an external case with USB. The last one having the most important data. I had to reinstall windows and during the process, I deleted the partition on the disk !!! After alot of swearing, I told myself: I'm sure there's something to do with this. So I started searching for a file recovery program. First, I had to format the disk cause there was no partition on it, hoping to be able to retreive my data. After trying about 12 programs, I finally found THE one. http://www.stellarinfo.com/ - Stellar Phoenix Windows Data Recovery Was able to recover thing I even had forgotten about. The first scan took about 6 hours for a 40gb hdd. Now, I'm in the process of recovering those files and I've got around 5 hours left for the full disk recovery. You can also choose witch file you want to keep. As long as you didn't put new files on the disk, you can recover almost any drive. Anyway, that was my story and if I was able to help aleast one person, the time I took writing this was worth it.
What do you mean by recovering things you forgotten? xD Cuz I reformatted my computer while losing stuff before too... ._." So does it recover those too? Or what? That'd be sweet if it does.
Like, if you accidentally deleted an important file (from recycle bin, so its gone "forever"), you still have a chance of recovering it So yes, it should work with a formatted drive. HOWEVER, if you want to recover a file, you must make sure you leave the hard disk as close to its original state (when you deleted the file) as possible. and gj tharoux I had to do a file recovery too, not surprisingly those windows tools didn't work nearly as well as the linux tools that I found :arf:
Ooooooh! I reformatted my drive, but I already installed Ff3, ZoneAlarm, saved a bunch of torrents, etc. Do you think it'll still work? And how do I know which version to download? <3
What I mean is that before (read 2 format ago), my disk was 98% full. I did a format and never went to that % again (max was 50%). So when the program scanned my hdd, it was able to recover the files in the 50%-98% portion of the disk, thus why I said that I had forgotten about those file. It's quickly explain but I don't want to get into how a hdd work, I'm too lazy. As soon as you start putting data on the disk, you're losing old stuff... but you can give it a try anyway... I used "Stellar Phoenix Windows Data Recovery Software" to do it and it worked. The demo version will scan but won't recover. I won't post a link to a crack here but google as the answer to every problem. or pm me :arf: But like I said, it's freaking long to do all this. Almost 18 hours for all the process in my case. Unfortunately, I'm not running a linux partition anymore so I had to deal with windows apps
Haha, you're in trouble then. Removing files from the recycling bin doesn't "delete" anything. The data is still on the drive, however the pointer to it is gone. Therefore, the operating system can't see the file but it's information is still on the hard drive.
There is a useful tool im using to protect my data : http://www.recoverdeletedfilestool.com/ the only trouble is, you have to crack it first before having the full version
The only thing you need to recover data is a live cd (here i am encouraging linux again lol) or another hdd with a decent hex editor and a heck of a lot of time on your hands lol. That is the hard way though... The easy way to recover files from the recycle bin is to download this: http://www.snapfiles.com/get/restoration.html Its free, not the best available but functional if you havent modified the data on the hdd too much. It works with FAT and NTFS by the way
