Ok. So I want to go to New York around December time this year and do the Christmas type thing. I know it's a bit cheesey, but I'd just love to do it. I've been a couple of times before with my boyfriend, but we've always gone in the spring. So. Do I go the week leading up to Christmas and come back around Christmas Eve time? Or do I go after Boxing Day and stay over New Year? Opinions please.
New Years in New York City is a bit too crazy for my personal taste...so I wouldn't want to hang around for that :/
Hmm? I dunno, it's just too crazy hectic for me. Too many people, too many crowds...I'd rather be somewhere quieter and cozier with a group of friends. I dunno.
Yeah, I know what you mean... I just want to actually do something this New Year. We always just end up having a drink at someone's house, which is fine, but you could do that practically any weekend. It's going to be busier either way though. The couple of week's running upto Christmas are going to be super crowded, but we tend to stick to the galleries and museums more than the shopping areas so it might not be as bad. Maybe I should change the plan and go towards the start of December. They'll be in Christmas mode by then I'm sure
hmmm well if you go on boxing day, you catch all the great sales i vote boxing day to new years...and then you can see the ball drop in Times Square if you so wish!
I would go for the whole christmas weekend.. arrive on the 20th and leave on jan 2nd.. new york is a fun place during those times... i spent new years there like 4 years ago... i couldnt drink however (underaged) but time sqare during new years is amazing..
Wish I could afford to go for 2 weeks! Yeah, it's New Year that I'd really like to be there for, I think. That's a very good point Thanks for that really useful input :nope:. As I said, I've been there a couple of times already and obviously enjoyed it else I wouldn't be looking to go back, would I?
Wow, all these comments are so full of joy and hope, excluding Ak*'s of course - party pooper. I did something like that two years ago. The food was okay, but the sights were great. time sqare, time sqare, time sqare. You have to stay until new years. I like Ak*'s time frame - "20th and leave on jan 2nd". When I went, it was from the 15th to the 7th. By that time, I just wanted my own bed. :/ With that time frame, you'd get just enough of Christmas and drinking.
I would go for leading up to Christmas, must be a magical place to lead up to the big day... Personally I detest Christmas but if I was in New York I think my hate would melt away.
You hate Christmas? Meh... You need a hug. *Hugs* We're sort of changing our plans now... We're thinking Prague in December, New York in the Spring. Neither of us have been to Prague before, but I've been told by a couple of friends that it's a really beautiful place, especially at Christmas.
Ahh Prague, I have heard good things as well. I think it would be a perfect place for a Christmas visit =]
Go for New Years. Times Square is awesome, everyone seems happy, better chance of snow in Central Park. Then again, I'm biased because I'm not Christian, so I think the whole "Christmas" feeling is a total garbage
