Ok, so I got accepted into a University for commerce, and business management. I have chosen all my required courses, but I was wondering what electives I should take. Maybe some of you could help me decide. Was thinking about Intro to Computer Programming, but I'm not sure how difficult that would be.

Im not sure about the school requirements there but im an accounting/finance major and ive taken business law, business organization and a class that taught me about microsoft word excel and powerpoint. Every school is different though.

Intro to computerprogramming doesnt seem too bad because its an intro class. You just learn the basics.

Congrats for getting into the university :)!

Hm, since you already have all your required classes, for your electives, I think you should just take something you like or are interested in. I know for my school that my required classes cover everything I need for my major and my electives allow me to take a break from it. Sooo.. My question is, is there anything else you enjoy doing? I know I'm a business major but I also like history. So for my electives, I've taken history courses.

    Thanks for the input guys.

Well, some of the stuff I'm interested in is art, and I also want to get into computer programming, however my University doesn't seem to have any visual art courses and most cool computer programming courses are 2nd year or later and require prerequisites, so I'm thinking of taking those prerequisites so I can take those courses later on. Courses like software design, and video game design sound really interesting.

Yeah, and you never know. You might like it so much that you decide to pursue a minor in it. :yup: I'm actually thinking about getting a minor or supplemental major in History because I've taken enough courses. Buutt, if you decide to do that, you'll be super busy at your University if you double major and minor :p

I would try to take some classes that you'd have fun in. Since GE's can often be super boring it's nice to have a cool class that you look forward to every week. Computer science might be good, but I think that some universities (I know mine does) use the intro class as a "weeding" course so they make it really hard so people will change majors if they don't like it or don't do well. I think history courses are always good classes to take because they're fun and not too hard. Maybe you'd wanna take an art class though? Even if you're not good at it, art can be a fun no-worries extra class. When I was taking my prereq drawing classes I met a bunch of people that weren't art majors but were taking it to relax. Like a guy who was in chemical engineering or something.. he wasn't very good but he did improve by the end of the class. :)

i wouldn't take intro to comp sci. it's an easy class for some, but a really hard class for others.

i'd take a class that is easy for sure, because this is your first semester in college. take off as much academic-stress as you can while you get adjusted to your new environment

Computer programming is very useful, but I would only take it if you like to program. Otherwise it will just be a drag on your performance and you'll fail college. Anything to do with the internet is a plus imo. The internet is a great way to start entrepeneuring, if you have some business sense.

Ok, I hear what you guys are saying, but what do you guys think would be some easy courses? I heard history, but I've never really liked in High school, so I doubt that would be any different in University.

Aemira - I wish I could take an arts class, I'm pretty ok at drawing, and love doing it, however my University doesn't seem to offer any visual art classes :(

    Grats on getting in!
For my electives I chose some English and Lit classes but really it's all up to you and what your interests are..

I'd ask some older siblings/friends that are in your college for tips on easy classes and professors.

Don't get a language one. I'm pretty sure you've dabbled in multiples ones already. I just don't see the point in learning so many languages (personally).

With an exception for Mandarin of course. Chinese business people are pretty awesome. :D

Just a warning: Mandarin is -really- hard to learn.

there should be some easy commerce electives to look into -> i've found that commerce electives were always easier than arts electives. some easy non commerce electives i have taken were asian studies and family studies where its pure memorization
