Hey guys having a bit of trouble trying to get my TV to work as my dads monitor, his computer has a GeForce 8400 GS graphics card and I'm not sure what other information is important. The initial loading screen stuff works but then it craps out and won't display a thing other than "unsupported mode". I've been mucking around with a normal monitor which works fine, and I can start and run on the TV with no major problems in safe mode but normal mode will not listen to me, I've tried google advice which hasn't done too well any tech wizard want to save me? Can find out additional stuff if required (I should note, that it has worked fine on the TV in the past but I messed the computer up and now the computer is fixed but the problem is it won't display on the TV)

hmmm..i used to use a 42 inch plasma tv as a monitor.

i now use a 32 inch lcd tv as a monitor.

not sure how that helps, but good luck.

First, you need to know what resolution your tv can support
    720p: 1280x720
    1080p: 1920x1200/1920x1080

If you're using the HDMI or component connector, use the max supported resolution
If you're using composite or S-video connector, then you might be able to get it at 800x600, but usually, it's 640x480 so you'll have 2 black bar on each side of the screen cause using those connection, 16:9 is impossible.

Finally, be sure that your refresh rate settings are not feeding an input to high for your TV.
I.E: my tv is a 60hz, If I go higher than that in with the PC, nothing is displayed on the TV.

I don't like plasma TVs, I prefer LCD or LED tachnology 'cause plasma TVs are really problematic =x

Yeah, I'm gonna have to agree with trewoiu. Plasma TVs are really problematic. They're pretty much made to use for a short period of time and if you're going to be on the computer for a while, then we might have a problem. A LCD monitor would be much more reliable.

    Just my two cents
