http://www.cnn.com/2009/TECH/03/24/conf ... index.html This is interesting. Apparently, wednesday, a huge computer worm will infect millions of computers. Who knows what will happen? You guys think this is legit?
"A computer-science detective story is playing out on the Internet as security experts try to hunt down a worm called Conficker C and prevent it from damaging millions of computers on April Fool's Day." I CANT WAIT...I AM SOOOO EXCITED!
But Norton quotes "Target: All users of Windows XP and Windows Vista. If you’re worried about the Conficker worm striking on April 1st, don’t be. On April 1st the Conficker worm will simply start taking more steps to protect itself. After that date, machines infected with the “C†variant of the worm may not be able to get security updates or patches from Microsoft and from many other vendors. The creators of the worm will also start using a communications system that is more difficult for security researchers to interrupt." So if your computer is not already infected with 'variant b' the chances of getting the new variant of this worm is unlikely.Another norton quote "Q: How do I know if I am infected? A: The best way to know if you are infected is to run a good antivirus product. One symptom that may indicate you are infected is finding that your computer is blocked from accessing the web sites of most security companies."
sounds like a joke.... yet it also sounds real i think it is legit but hopefully, none of our computers will get infected
this is another example of news companies making a big fuss over something which isnt gunna be the end of the world, aslong as you have good antivirus software and a firewall you will be safe
Conficker is not a joke, but it's not very serious either. McAfee's Global Thread Condition is only elevated. Not a big deal, just another worm.
Yeah it's definately a real worm, I believe I had to removed it from an older computer of mine a couple of days ago. But despite it being so widespread, it isn't a tremendous threat. It hasn't done anything particularly malicious yet and it's relatively easy to remove/defend against, too. Just find software that will scan your computer for it and follow the removal instructions. After that, get the patch from Microsoft.
Agreed, but at least it hasn't done anything particularly dangerous yet. While the news stories have probably stirred up a lot of panic, getting this story out to the masses is probably the best thing that could have happened. At leats people know of it and how to go about removing it now.
Has it attacked anybody's computer that you know of? If yes what was the magnitude of the virus. The main problem with these new viruses are that their objectives are not known until it totals the computer it affects!!!
So far, I've not heard anyone infected with it, I think the people who created it are still coding it so it adapts itself if it's detected by any anti-virus software. From what I have read, the FBI are using White Hats to track the virus. White Hats are just computer security experts, though some call them ethical hackers. And the virus could actually just be a bluff, similar to the whole Y2K ordeal.
Firstly, a patch has been released which fixes the bug it exploited. Secondly, it did infect many computers, but it simply did nothing except spread itself. Seems like as an April Fool's somebody came up with a story that the creator(s) of it were going to "activate" it on April 1st, hahaha.
Well, unless the FBI were in on the joke, they wouldn't have gotten involved unless it were serious. And viruses can easily find ways around patches through other bugs, seeing as how many times Microsoft has screwed up with fixing bugs.
lol, yeah, the fbi were definetaly not in on it... it caused a complete uproar, some people freaked out, the fbi would be dead if they were caught being in on it... and i don't think they would take the risk... secondly, i'm disappointed by the creator of the worm i expected great things to happen, like the utter destruction of millions of windows computers seeing that many windows computers die at once would of caused so much problems... would of left a mark in microsoft forever...
There's so many marks in microsoft, it's hard to make another. The IE bug, the firewall bugs, countless many other bugs, at least Apple can protect it's users, Microsoft runs for the hills as soon as another virus entered the internet. XD Don't jynx it Heya, I'm a microsoft user, sadly >.> Apple's are out of my price range e_e but my computer has served me well
