This is Juniors Gudie on how to stuff up an IPhone. Step 1: Let your girlfriend have it. Step 2: Go to work Step 3: Get a phone call saying she put it through the washing machine in her pocket... Step 4: Post on Neofriends! There you have it! Okay just kiddin.. Thats not my spammy guide. But seriously, I've tried it out. But it won't turn back on.. Or will it? Nothing appears on the screen (Which was expected...). But if I hold the main button down it beeps, then a few seconds later beeps again. Saying something about voice recognition.. I assume it was trying to make a call based on a name I said, but it won't work. My question is, does this mean its on and working, just my screen is broken? Has anyone washed/heard of/read about water damaged IPhones and best way to fix them? I want to take the screen off (Which I've seen done on youtube using a bracket to put a GPS on the window of a car...but I don't have one of those!!).. Does anyone know of another way to get the screen/cover off my IPhone? It's the 3gs 16gb in case that makes a difference...
 Yeah Ive done something kinda like that. I had mines in my pocket while i was swimming in the beach. Dont really know if theres anyway to fix water damage, but i know apple will replace it if you have a receipt and its been less than a year since you bought it.
Apple will replace water damaged IPhones? Although its not a manufactures issue? I find that hard to beleive...Are you sure?
My sister did the same thing to her ipod touch. We just put a giant bag of silica gel and the ipod in a zip lock baggy for a few days and it seemed to absorb most of the water out of the ipod. It has been working fine ever since she washed it. Sorry if i don't make sense. Had a couple drinks...
Unfortunately it seems to have dried up already.. I put it in front of the heater (not too close for it to melt/do damage) for a few days and it seems to have dried up. No water left in the camera hole, or visible behind the screen. Thats why I want to take it off to check the inside.
i dropped mine from a scaffold 5m up, it survived but wouldn't charge properly... "Mr Apple Technician, why isn't my iphone working"
Apple is wonderful with their warranty. They're replace almost anything. Just bring it to the store and ask why it's not working. Don't tell them it got washed. XD
Unfortunately there is no Apple Store or Apple Care store in my state And I'm not flying interstate (or driving for 8hours+) just to take the phone back... But its good to know at least one company is good with their warranty... I think I might move on to the HTC (Once I get it fixed... ) > Their aps are free to download too!! Just got to find one that is still tough so don't break it.
...wow awesome! So I call them, lie to them and say its not working why Will it work if I be honest? I have trouble lying...
All you need to say is my phone isnt working, they ask questions, you say its not turning on... this issue that the above might be, when you send it in and if they find water damage, you will prob have to pay for the replacement as they take a holding for the phone... Another thing you could try is ask for good will, say its your sons phone, he got it for his birthday, he forgot it was in his pocket when he went for a swim and now hes very upset... This happened to me with my ipod nano, ipod wanted to go swimming with me, mum rang up saying i was playing with my cat that we had to put down (RIP Jessica), then i jumped in the pool not knowing, ended up getting new ipod for like cost price
almost positive apple does not cover water damage.. perhaps if you could convince them that it simply stopped working they might replace it lol
I found this guide to be very helpful and informative, thanks! BTW solution in 2 easy steps Step 1. Get a blackberry, Iphones are garbage Step 2. Don't give to girlfriend.
I should be the expert on this since I am now on my fourth iPhone (all 3g 8 gb!) iPhones have indicators that go off when it's been subsumed into water. Since it fell into the washroom, it will most definitely show. However, it doesn't always go off, so you might get lucky. Apple has great service and they will replace your phone for water damage at a subsidized price. You don't need to tell them about the washer, just tell them that it's not working. Since there's no retail store nearby you they will send a courier to give you a phone that you can hold onto until they finish repairing your phone. If you go to the retail store, however, then you would get a brand new one on the spot without needing to return it. If they deemed that the phone wasn't working because of water damage, then they will charge you $225 (US) to replace it. Not bad. Just go to the support section of their website.
...I called them today. $250 and they'll replace it. Thats cheaper than going through my house contents accidental insurance (same price but then no excess rise!!).. So I'll pay them eventually and get myself a new phone. Thanks everyone for help. Rep will be given to those answers I deem deserving
