What kind of racism are you talking about ? Just black and white, or just like... Americans - Mexicans.

i hate racism generally, and would NEVER promote the idea!

i do believe that its the government that causes racism, for example people come over from other countries and they get all these benefits and housing from our government when there are people from scotland who have been waiting 8+ years for a home and still dont get one; i believe that this is wrong and can cause racism.
i do also believe that its not as one sided as its made out to be as in most cases its the person from the home country that gets into the poo about it and not the foreigner.

at the end of it all all people are just the same and just because they are from a different country doesnt make them different

That is so true and happens so many times in Portugal... We have a lot of imigrants from Africa and they demand much more stuff than the portuguese, and the governement just supports them the maximum it cans (even providing new homes free), most of times favouring the imigrants over the portuguese people, that most of times need more then them.
I think this is quite complicated to manage and the governement is in a delicate position, 'cause if they decide to favour the portuguese or just reducing the exagerated support given to imigrants, they'll get called racists and then wherever you walk there will be imigrants destroying stores or just assaulting people. It's pretty complicated. I think the imigrants (at least those who come to Portugal) take advantage of the word Racism to force the governement to give them what they want, however, they just don't seem (or don't want) to realize that they're the ones being racist.

Racism is an issue that is commonly talked about and the general consensus is that it is bad. However it is still prevalent in many countries. Why?

I believe it is due to some reasons:
Jealously (eg. against the jews during world war II)
    Despise (eg. against the black)

I personally feel that racism for any reason is wrong. If we dont like some one, it should be because of his or her character. If we do not giver opportunities to someone it should be because of his or her abilities, or should i say lack of it.

Here in Holland it's becoming incredible. I know that immigrants shouldn't be denied, we now they simply get more than the Dutch people do. They come here, get a house, don't need to get a job and then get €1500 a month, even if they do nothing.

Because of that, people here have to pay a 50% tax. That makes people very annoyed, I think.

I'm just wondering something. Do you guys honestly belive that you'd be able to work within the next few months if you've just escaped a war and seen friends and family get killed?
People can get paid vacation for several months if they're too stressed to work, you can easily get six months paid if you just had a baby, but if you've just been terrorized by the government or militant groups, you're not stressed?
We have a responsibility to take care of those who can't take care of themselves.

I don't think that you can work then, but people that are coming to Holland don't have war in their land.

racism is the cause of TOO MANY deaths in this world for sure, I believe we all bleed red blood, have the same emotions and feelings as the next person, Its culture that causes most of the problems, like Middle Eastern people have things they do as a culture which in other countries is considered wierd, but we in the states have "wierd" customs as well. I think its the mis-informed or the fear of that culture not the people and its just become focused on the people, I have friends from all walks of life, I love learning new languages and cultures. :)

    Some ways i understand it.
    not with black and white.
    skin colour is skin colour.

but in the way of say
People coming to England and getting given a house, a job and all that.
when there are our own people living on the streets and they get given nothing.

also the fact of my friend went for an interview and didnt get the job. a Polish girl did. because she will work for less money.
i think stuff like that is bull and should be sorted out.

and how if an English person goes to say Malta and enters a church we have to abide by there rules, women cant have there sholders or knees out. yet people come to England and wont abide by our rules.

the British welfare state is run by the government that provides for the people.
it provides free health facilities for the public and money for jobless people monthly.

I am not very sure if it is still happening in Britain but i read about it in my Textbook somewhere.

We have that here in Holland indeed. But the problem is that people that work very hard get paid less than people that do nothing sometimes.

About the 50% tax, it's 56 in fact. People have to give 56% of the money that they make to the government.

    And we have 19% btw.

That is very bad indeed. They should have a system put in place to only allow people who are genuinely unemployed only to enjoy the benefits.
