What is a moose?

    but in case you didnt know what an actual moose was:

    . a large, long-headed mammal, Alces alces, of the deer family, having circumpolar distribution in the Northern Hemisphere, the male of which has enormous palmate antlers.

    having read this I'm now curious, where did this terminology come from...is this unique to this site or is there a larger base for it, say like duck roll and long cat?
