Ugh, i feel so dumb for not knowing. anyway, i heard many people talking about emulators...soooo anyone wanna tell me what they are?
An emulator is a software, sometimes on certain hardware that allows you to play games/run programs that are not made for that specific system. I.E I can play N64 games on my PC. Also, the Nintendo DS has an emulator called the R4 card... You put a program on it (which comes with it) then load it up with either downloaded games (which is illegal and you should not do ) or convert movies into a format which it will let you play. It then allows u to play it on DS If you want a more in depth explanation or scientific explanation I can do that too.. Just figured that would be easier for now! EDIT: An emulator in computer sciences duplicates (provides an emulation of) the functions of one system using a different system, so that the second system behaves like (and appears to be) the first system. This focus on exact reproduction of external behavior is in contrast to some other forms of computer simulation, which can concern an abstract model of the system being simulated. Thats direct from wiki - basically what I said, just more technical.
emulate: to imitate (a particular computer system) by using a software system, often including a microprogram or another computer that enables it to do the same work, run the same programs, etc., as the first. most people think of videogames when they think of emulators. I, for instance have a PSX emulator for my mac which allows me to play any PSX games I want (if I have the right ROM) a ROM is just what they call game files. you can get an emulator for anything, N64, PSX, gamecube, ect. even windows and mac emulators.
another question: how do i get an emulator? and can i connect my ds or something with it?(like for the pc ones) yeah, i have an r4, FULL of illegal games!!!
You can download emulators from the internet... Depending on what you're after. Be careful though, as always a lot would be viruses. (Pretty sure this site doesn't err, support this sort of thing. So be careful what we post..) The other question, about connecting your DS with it... I'm confused. What do you mean? Can you run DS games on PC? In which case, more than likely. Just gotta find the right emulator.
well, there is a Nintendo DS emulator but i do not think that it connects with the nintendo ds. I have one called no$gba ds. It works for most of the popular games but did have a few minor glitches when i used it.
Emulators are good if you want to try out a game before actually buying it as the emulator and game are free to download as longas you can find them. I am however of guilty (only sometimes) of downloading a game and using it on my emulator when I am totally capable of going out and buying it...but don't tell!
It seems that the "roms" of every single GBA game are available on various websites and can be played on a emulator such as Visualboyadvance.... Unfortunately, most DS games are not yet playable on a PC. (Although playing hand-held games on the PC certainly takes away from the convenience of a hand-held system.)
You can speak and post links about emulators. You CAN'T post link to BIOS (Like for PCSX2) or ROMS/GAMES. The software in itself ain't illegal. What you download after is This site regroup almost ALL possible emulators (for console/handheld device),and is always up-to-date http://www.ngemu.com/frontpage/index.php
running ps3 and xbox 360 emulators is tricky bc you need decent computer specs to run the roms, lol i remeber play game boy roms on my pc a few years ago (POKEMON FTW) =P
An emulator is something you use to emulate something. It's usually a program that you run, that lets you run a game system or different OS on your computer. Like VisualBoy, or a Virtual Machine.
