ok, I got this thread idea from computers-and-technology-f9/my-new-rig-t25991.html
One user stated that Vista was probably the worse OS ever made.

I just need to understand why so many people hates it. I was too very reluctant on installing vista to replace my working XP SP3 install. I dual booted vista for around 1 week and it was clear in my mind that vista was winning.

I'm just out of words on why people don't want to use it. And for those of you who are waiting for windows 7, here's what I think of this:

I was told that windows 7 was gonna be start from scratch. Totally new engine and everything. After seeing the first beta release (and trying it), this look like Vista V2 to me.

    Anyway, comment/fight/destroy at will.

@Zer0, keep linux outta here. vista only :arf:

I personally am a fan of Vista. I still have XP on my desktop, because I didn't want to pay to upgrade it, but on my laptop I love Vista. It runs smoothly, it looks better, it operates better. It's faster. I personally don't have a problem with viruses, or any of my hardware failing. I don't know why so many people are against Vista. Maybe if I had less RAM, because I know it requires a lot more RAM, but my laptop has 4gbs and is very fast with just an average processor.

I'm interested to see how this turns out, and I agree Windows 7 doesn't feel that much different than Vista, I dl'd the "trial" a few hours after it was released, and I didn't feel like I was dealing with a BRAND NEW OS.

It is slower than XP due to visual effects and such, which seems like a waste to a lot of people. Back when Vista was first released, there were A LOT of programs that were not compatible, so you had to run them in 98 compatibility mod and all that crap. I get an error message every time I boot up saying an error in a dll file, so I deleted it, and I'm still getting the same error on how it isn't working properly. The prompts can get annoying "Do you want to install this program?" "Are you sure?" "Are you super sure?" "Do you want to trust this program?" "Are you sure?" "This program is requesting internet access. Let it?" "YOU SURE?!" < - For just one program.

but in the end, i don't have a problem with vista. I was just giving the counter argument.

Ok, we have pretty much all of the arguments I was looking for

First, regarding the visual effects... you can disable them. Sure, they look nice but it's not a must. Personnaly, I've got a machine strong enough to run all of them and I never had a single lag since I installed vista.

That beeing said, I'm aware that the first release of Vista was a catastrophic failure, but now I'm running SP1 and I don't have any problem at all. On a side note, I've tried both 32bits and 64bits and vista seems less buggy on the x64.

As for the super protective thing (forgot the name), I disabled mine cause it was pretty annoying... again, if you don't like the feature, you can remove it.

Seriously, for all of you who say that vista is slower than xp, I can't believe it. Unless you have a p4 1.8ghz with 1 gig of ram, I can't see how it could be slower. Vista is so much more optimized than XP, it doesn't make any sense.

For the info, here's my specs. Doing the performance test in vista, everything is at 5.9 except for the CPU at 5.7
    Asus P5K-SE (El cheapo board)
    Intel E8400 (dual core @ 3 ghz)
    2 Gb of ram
    ATI HD4850 @ stock settings

I think most people's problems come from bitter memories. Nerds hold some mean grudges.

    Ain't that the truth

I agree whole heartedly. Like I said I still have XP on my XPS gaming designed desktop and I have Vista on this laptop, and Vista is SO much faster and smoother than my XP. The program compatibility I know killed a lot of people on the Vista idea. My dad works for Symantec and they all pretty much hated MS because of it, but oh well. And like Tharoux said, mostly anything you don't like about Vista, can either be removed, or just shut up.

Well, I guess Vista didn't reach its hype. The only thing annoying about Vista is its security. It gets really annoying after a while...

I just think Vista was no better than XP much...and it was kinda a waste of money

I like XP better but there are certin things I liked about vista that I sort of miss now that I have XP again but my computer runs much better, and by better I mean faster and such.

Vista seems to need a lot more memory to run like XP, XP needs 1GB and it almost flys Vista can barely work on 1 GB , 2GB I found it works a little better but still not as well as XP. Thats pretty much the main reason I don't like vista that and it dosen't allow a few of my older programs to work.

Sadly, Vista also require a good GPU. And true, 1GB of ram for vista is not enough.

That's laughable, Vista isn't that bad, honestly. It just takes a bit of getting used to, and a decently built PC.

The only problem ... and may i say ... the hudge problem is...It`s not XP!

We all know how to use xp like the back of our hands, xp and 98/me are pretty simular, but vista comes along and destroys all that.

A good metaphor? ... Its like spending 2 years learning german only to move to spain.

    who wouldn't ???
For day 2 day users, I don't see a big difference with the present GUI. Just remove all visual goodies and it's pretty much the same thing as XP. Bah, I guess I'm a Vista fan... and Mac OSX.5 :D

Totally offtopic but I finally manage to get everything working on my Hackintosh after the new 10.5.7 update. The mac team took 1 1/2 damn years to release working drivers for my ATI HD4850... but it's working now :p Had to share, thanks for listening :)

I've got a mediocre laptop (2ghz AMD, 3gb ram, 300+gb HD) and vista has been a pain for me. Prior, I had been using a much less powerful desktop with XP and I was able to do anything I needed to regarding gaming/work/school. Vista on the other hand, is packaged with just about every pc you can buy at any store (even the 200$ computers with 1gb ram and other lame hardware). My laptop hasn't performed to the capabilities of my desktop in terms of gaming, but I've been able to manage.

Regarding the vista security issues requiring a confirmation for just about anything, even if you turn it off in the CP, I still get windows pop-ups saying my computer isn't safe and it needs to be turned back on. Compatibility/run-as-administrator issues are still present, but thankfully they've been greatly reduced since the early versions of vista.

The upside I find with vista is that the gui and looks in general are more aesthetically pleasing and comfortable.

On a side note, the OP mentioned that they saw vista was the worst OS ever made, but looking at the other thread I didn't see anyone mention this o_O?

    Everything is wrong with Vista.
Personally I hate it, and the security is annoying as hell.
And I hate that it's only 30 fps instead of XP's 60fps, I play a lot of flash games where the lag from Vista makes me suck.
And it's jsut really slow (although it may just be my computer. xD)

    Example:
    Igloo ABer v4.5

25/05/2009 7:48:58 PM : Authorized and logged in successfully
25/05/2009 7:49:44 PM : There was a restock at the Igloo Garage

    I didn't get A SINGLE ITEM from 13 restocks. =/
I got 9 last night... At like, 12:30am - 2:30am. Obviously when not as many people are on =/

i really don't get where you guys are seeing all these security warnings... i have vista on my comp and the only time i get security warnings is like maybe when i'm trying to download something... although that may be because i have norton on my comp so it keeps my computer clean from security threats but i personally don't see the issue with the security warnings, also my desktop has like 2G ram and vista runs perfectly smooth even on flash games. I believe ive gotten up to like 50fps on some flash games so i don't know what your talking about syphon. So in my opinion not much is wrong with vista just maybe some compatability issues still but those i find are still few and far between...

If you downloaded a copy off the internet, you may have one already optimized. That's what I'm running and it's running so good.
FYI: Windows Vista SP1 + all goodies (office, antivirus, PS, writing software, drivers pack, security off and MUCH MUCH more) by MadDogz

So far, not missing anything in the installation, no weird bug, running damn smooth and most important, FAST !
