Do you like to use it? Do you think it's right to use it? And do you think it is bad for the correct version of each language?
    Just share your thoughts :p

I use chatspeak in msn or instant messengers, but in forums I usually just use some omgs, wtfs or lmaos.

Anyone who uses any form of it on a regular basis should be shot

Ok, maybe not that extreme, but it does really annoy me.

I think if a person uses a little chatspeak, then its alright but if its every word then it would be annoying.

    xD sorry, could not resist...
Anyway I chatspeak but just a little...I use words like for example lmao, lol, rofl, btw etc...
I think that if you use just a little there is no problem but it is really annoying people that use chatspeak in all words that they type...
and btw the english chatspeak is reallly hard to understand jeez o_O

As with most things, if used in moderation, it's tolerable. When every single word is abbreviated or made into some ridiculous acronym, it's extremely annoying and makes you look like a blithering idiot.

I pretty much never use chatspeak, I don't even use "lol" because it sounds stupid.
Most time when people post lol, they aren't laughing at something funny, only smiling.
But I don't give a damn if others use it, as long as I can understand what they're trying to communicate, I don't find it any more disturbing than if someone has an accent.
The reason I chose not to use chatspeak is because my native language isn't English, and it therefore would be harder for me to express myself and it would be harder for me to learn and develop my skills in using the English language.
I don't really see why people are bothered either, if I can read it and it's not even my native tongue, then so you should you be able to do.
Also, people do not speak in the same way as they used to, just like everything, the language is developing and more abbrivations are being made up. This is not something bad for a language, it's progress.

So I prefer not to use it, but I don't care/mind if someone else does.

In examples like the one omgcat made in the above post, I don't believe that's modeling any type of progression. If anything, it's a degeneration of the English language.

    I disagree with that.
For example, until about 40 years ago, it was rude to call someone that was older "Du" (singular for "you") here in Sweden and you were always supposed to call them "Ni" (plurarl for "you"). These days most people find "Ni" almost insulting (if not just totally weird) rather than polite.
Also, many new words are just abbrevations of old ones, and slang is much more used as well. I have no doubt that in a hundred years or so, people will type much more close to what omgcat wrote, rather than how we type today.
Because "degeneration" is a big part of the development of a language.

My friend, an English language student, is currently writing an essay on the out moding of text speak. She's been collecting text messages in order to examine whether or not people use chat/text speak within them. Apparently most dont. I know I certainly dont. I hate chat speak, it hurts my soul.

I think that when people cross the line between chatspeak and illiterate, it needs to end.
