Why guilds are hopeless these days.

So yeah i've been looking back to guilds now a days, compared to guilds back then, and the guild community sucks now a days.

For me, i've always been a big part of guilds when I played neopets, but honestly now even when I do want to practice coding their layouts or spending my time into putting a small community together, there's no point.

Why? All i've seen is a bunch of members gathered into one guild. They all join for member amounts.

I've been browsing around guild chat and I joined this nice looking guild, the owner works so hard even though we only have 4 members. Yet she advertise for days and days and she only has 4 members including her.

It seems so weird. Because back then all you really needed at LEAST, was a custom guild layout that doesn't look like you put text on it with Microsoft Paint, and a good guild name. But now, I don't see how that is attractive anymore. People now look at even "better and improved" layouts, guilds of "famous or talented" guild owners, like 80 things for activities and what not.

I don't know if anyone remembers the guilds from back then, but feel free to discuss. I'm just ranting now =P

Bottom line is, as much as I wanna make a guild, I don't want to because how do you know that all the effort you put into it will get you somewhere right?

Not to mention some guilds are run by like 13 or 14 year olds. Not that I have much against that but it's hilarious how the owner can get the guild members to be equally obsessed with stuff like "omg flying turtles". It's not...realistic half the time.

True, most people only join guilds that have many people. That's why I joined my current guild.
It's not like people want to join a guild with 4 people that won't do anything. There's constant chat in a large guild, always someone to talk to and help out.

I don't like that they basically killed the purpose of guilds. They can't even give things away without being frozen. It's ridiculous.

my guild is lacking of members too and yes , it can get boring with a few people.

that's just how it works, more people= more rep = more likely of joining

Well what I looked for before joining my Guild was; I wanted a good amount of people and a guild that if into my interests. I wanted to use the Neopets Stock market to make extra NP. So I found a decent size and they post what they bought for the day and show when they sell off shares all the NP they are racking in. It's been fun.

But back to the topic, I agree they are just for show now a days. But you can still have fun in some of the huge guilds, as long as it appeals to your interests. That's what I look for, even though the selections is rather Low... :(

Im actually owner of a guild that has around 20-30 members. Only lik 10 of them are regularly active. Its super hard being guild owner. Seems like eeveryone only wants free items and doesnt care too much on how much it costs me, its free to them.

I did advertize alot and even thoe i have a custom layout and some activities and giveaways all the time its still hard to get new members.

I only join guilds with under 20 members. I don't like the guilds with 1000+ members where you won't get noticed and half of them are inactive.
    I also enjoy a guild with a custom layout and a brilliant owner ^^;
but the last three ones I joined lately (which looked promising) closed down after a week+ :S now I don't wanna join any guilds ._.

I'm the same frejaahh I only join guilds with under 20 members that way you actually remember people and get to know their names. The point of a guild is it to be it's own little community and with 100+ members how is that possible?

I remembered back then as Moo said, the guilds were appealing but also I remember owning a guild and most people only join for a prize, they dont care about being part of a club, talking, they just want free stuff to make more money and thats why they join the large guilds,
more people = owner is most likely richer = more giveaways and CHANCES to win free stuff
