Ok... i just bought a new Xbox 360 ( never had one before)

it came with the wireless network adapter

Ok when I turn on the Xbox and attach the adapter I can find my desktop PC's Internet connection. ON the modem the wireless light is on. It says iam connected to the internet.

however when i run the xbox live tests it keeps failing the IP address testing. Do i need a Router for it to work? or would my wireless Internet suffice.

the only hardware i have is my modem and the wireless network adapter.

How strong is the wireless transmitter? How far away is the xbox?

Then I have no idea :$

Call Microsoft support.. they're generally helpful with troubleshooting.

take it back, get a refund.... then...

bridge your connections between your xbox and your pc/laptop!

Bang free wireless xbox live with a daft $40 wireless adapter!

You will need a router if you have the wireless adapter....

You really should just bridge your connection between your xbox & pc... easier and you don't need an adapter or router.

To use a wireless adapter you will need a wireless router. To get on xbox live just bridge like they said or if your modem has any extra ethernet ports just get a real long network cable and run it against a wall or something

Bridging would be the way to go.
