If neopets created an "old version" of neopets? Took you back to the early 2000's when it wasn't overrun with new features aimed at 7-12-year-olds?

Obviously it wont be done, but I always wished they could just create a neopets old school that was based on a certain date, and the pet styles never changed, no neocash, etc. Of course some new plots and stuff, but it mainly stayed within an early neopet's style.

I took a look at some of the pets I use to love and I was kind of upset to see some of the ugliest redesigns I have ever seen. Personally I think that some of the redesigns were just complete overkill.

Lol yeah, I loved the old neopets, and god there is a lot of new features that I just HATE ._. on the other hand, it's also good with new changes and stuff, and old neopets was really old. But nice without all the ads and stuff, when they didnt just wanna make money D:

Some of the new stuff is interesting, but it is becoming way too marketed. Old neopets around maybe 2003 was honestly my favorite time to really be on neopets. Unfortunately it is when it started to go downhill.

    I'm glad I started playing in 2002, because after the conversions, it was totally ruined D;

ichumon.com is a good substitute. they have a neo-cash-esque system, but don't cram it down your throat. I joined yesterday after someone posted a thread about it. It REALLY reminds me of the old days back in 2000 when I joined. It's only been around a year, so you're pretty much getting in on the ground floor.

The pet designs look nice for that website.

yeah I like it so far, for the one day I've been playing. I have an owl thing... and its pretty quick and easy to rack up their currency, too.

Now who wants to code me an autopricer for it. XD

I had a good idea the other day.

Viacom should 'sell' vouchers - or an in-game item that is bound to the account for a semi-unreasonable amount of NP - to re-convert ONE neopet per account. The pet then cannot be traded, re-converted, or Boochi'd. Only deleted from the account/site.

I think this would be a super sleuthy move on their part to gain truckloads of money.

'But Tycho', you argue. 'Won't they lose money on NC cards and NC mall purchases?'

Even if people only make a one-time purchase of 5, 10, or 20 dollars ((I hope not that much, yikes)) to convert their pet and never spend another dime, Viacom has successfully wrangled that much money from someone that would have -never- spent money on Neopets otherwise. Think about it. People that swear up and down that Viacom is evil and they'll never give them their hard-earned cash will stop for a minute and remember fondly their UC Snow Aisha or their UC Grey Zafara and go 'you know, I think I can suck it up and give them x dollars for this. BUT JUST THIS ONCE.' And, chances are, if people can be forgiving for something like a unconversion they'll be more likely to spend money on Neopets in the future.

Not allowing more than one purchased UC pet per account can let Viacom be sure the chance for them to always spend money on NC cards/NC is secure, and the non-tradeability of the pet insures that PC boards won't explode and people with money aren't having a HUGE upper hand over people. And it'd lower the insane amount people are asking for UC pets. Honestly. I like some UCs, but I'm not going to save up 11m nps just to get one. Trading legit pets should not be about who has the most money, in-game or otherwise. ((please do not argue this point, it's not meant to be a fire starter))

I'm debating with myself - as if this would ever happen, hah - if it would be a mall item or not. I'd probably say... maybe. NC isn't available everywhere, but the prospect of people climbing all over themselves to trade rare or retired NC items for them makes it a little less fun. Though, I suppose, more people can afford NC than people that can't, so maybe it wouldn't be too hectic.

What else... Maybe the pets would have some indication they were un-converted on them? A small star in their lookup or something, just so they can't trick someone into sending them a vvvvwn RB draik or something and then go whoops (; I forgot it was a purchased one.

Aaaand I'm rambling! This is becoming a bit of a habit. :/

UH YEAH. I miss old Neopets :B Sidebar was awesome. Screw this headerbar and all the ads it brings with it.

Hah, thanks! I was thinking about that and debating on whether or not I should send an email to them... :D Probably not, they'd just ice me for conspiracy or something.

Tycho, I emailed them a similar idea a couple months ago. (No response besides the auto-generated one.)

Even besides that, though, the current converted/unconverted pets...well, what I've heard is that sometime (I think in 2010?) they're going to do another redraw, and this time there won't be any UC pets anymore. All the current C and UC pets are going to be converted again with a final redraw, since TNT "doesn't want 2 different types of pets out there."

Maybe by email? If they really do care about their players, then they should at least read it ;P Make no reference to your account.

And YES. I'm really happy now, no more 'OMG I HAVE AN UC PET YOU DON'T' nonsense.

I won't mind the redraw, even though I've applied for an UC Grey Zaff as it's one of my dream pets. At least I'll still have it after the RD, right? :D

And that's awesome. Now the only thing separating players from one another isn't pets, but wealth.

...and, well, that's what this site exists for, right? :3

I don't get why people criminalize Viacom for making a profit. Neopets is a business and businesses are out to make as much money as possible. If that means selling out, then they will sell out. If they lose members, so be it. The members they lost won't outweigh the new flow of paying customers they are getting from NC Cash, customization, premium, plushie sales, etc. If you want old neo back, you'll have to pay more than what Viacom is already getting from their new market.

Yes, old neo was better in a lot of ways. Less people, less annoying features, less ads, more... fun. But they saw a chance to make a lot of money and they took it. Wouldn't you have done the same?

No way, it would be boring. I wish people would get over the remember the way it was boards. I mean wouldnt it be awesome if life made it so that you could go back to the 2000's and redo everything

I have to agree with Rhett. I can't begrudge Viacom for doing what they did for more profit. I probably would've done the same. :/

BTW, Tycho, your idea is brilliant. 8D

    Tycho, best idea ever.

I was on a site a few years back that was Neopets-esque. I totally don't remember what it was called now, which really annoys me, because I'm sure I'd be mega rich on it. They even had something similar to paintbrushes. I hoarded loads of them.

What you're basically asking is for it to be put back in the hands of the old owners and not this crappy company that floods it with wasteful updated. Yeah, it was much more productive back then, and there was no "Hey give us your actual money so you can have stuff in a game!"
