how can a girl not walk home alone these days. I was walking like a half a mile to get to my bicycle yesterday.. then it ended up with a guy walking behind me, first trying to rape me. when I was screaming and pushing him away, he hit me and I fell on the ground. then he kicked me and took everything I had. I mean, everything was in that bag. ID, keys, make-up, wallet, phone etc. whoah, I'm just pretty shocked and spent half the night talking to the police and being on the hospital. difjsaøæsdk f*ck him :(

yeah, but only the police is allowed to wear pepper spray. and it all happened so fast that I wouldn't even be able to get it up and use it on him D: anyway, I was kinda schocked.. I feel better now, but it's all over the news and my friends worry like hell.. I am fine though .. considering.

I'm sorry to hear that that happened to you. I've been in a situation kind of like that before. where I was walking home alone and some guy came up behind me and tried to pull me into his car. =/

Seriously, if you're going to be walking alone at night /at all/ (and try to avoid it if possible, I mean, I know that that sounds ridiculous, because I thought nothing about walking alone at night until this happened, but I'm not so in to being kidnapped) take self defense lessons. Or, you know, next best thing: watch Miss Congeniality. SING - Solar plexus, Instep, Nose, Groin.

Never go for the groin first, because they're expecting that. I was grabbed from behind, so it was rather good positioning for an elbow to the solar plexus. From there, they tend to bend over a bit, so you get good leverage to break their nose with a knee. I'm warning you, though, it's kind of messy. But it's worth wrecking a pair of shoes if it saves you from harm. (Y)

Then you have to get away as soon as possible - it's not worth it to, like, stick around and wait for police or something, because you're leaving yourself in a position of vulnerability.

I'm glad that you made noise, though. That's the worst thing that people do is react silently because they're in shock or whatever. I'm sorry that this happened to you at all, but good on you for fighting back.

I hope that they catch the guy too.

And then let you break his nose. =)
    It's rather satisfying.

If you're walking alone at night, the idea is that you carry the pepper spray in your hand. Or a knife. Those work well.

Seriously though, I'm a guy, pretty built and I carry a big metal pole with me everywhere (literally. I walk with a cane), and I'm too paranoid to walk alone at night. And Toronto's a fairly safe city.

Just don't be an idiot. Be paranoid. Take the stance that everyone's trying to raep you. If a little boy comes up to you and is like "I'm lost, i can't find my mommy!", pepper spray. An elderly lady is all "Omg, this big man just stole my purse and broke my nose!", knife a bitch. They're both probably trying to rape you.

Oh wow, that went from serious to sarcastic fast.

Mann that happened to me once..I only had to walk 3 blocks and some guy started following me even though I saw him walk the other way when he got off -.- Then he put his hand over my mouth and stuff. The strangest thing was, he tried to push me to the ground, but I didn't fall, and he just gave up, he stood there watching while I was running home. Scariest moment of my life.

I guess..there are just lots of horny bastards around..I wonder if those people enjoy attacking people..

    Hope you're alright now. <3 <3 <3

I'm really sorry about what happened, if I'd be a girl and a guy tried to follow me & rape me or whatever, I'd just freak out.
Happy to be a guy, haha. But yea, it really sucks for your money, ID & stuff, but at least, you are safe.
It must have been awful. Hope you feel better now. D:

If five guys pull up in a big, black, scary-looking vehicle when you're alone at night, automatically assume that they're all meanies and toss a molotov cocktail through the window.

thanks you guys. and the self defense things, my mom was talking about it.
and yeah, I know that I shouldnt walk home alone, but seriously.. I've done it a thounsands times and my city is like the safest city ever (so I thought!) anyway, I guess I learnt never to do that again, but I was also kinda wasted. Which is probably why I pulled him away from me, screaming and running. I hope the police get that bastard. He actually hurt me pretty bad now that I'm over the shock and can feel something. Bleh, I never thought this could happen to me, I'm usually pretty responsible.. I got into a fight with my friend, and I just had to leave. I was pissed. No one was there to walk me home and I didn't have the time to get a cab or anything.
I know, I'm full of excuses, basic line is I should never walk home alone. I'll take that seriosuly now, and I will never let a friend walk home alone ever..
Running the streets all bloody and hurt.. and I couldnt call anyone as he had my phone. and the police staton was like 2 miles away. Luckily a lady heard me and ran to the streets to drive me. As the only one D:

oh, and I'll get my stuff replaced. yay!
I look like someone who's been in a club fight or something and someone who is really tough. I hate that xD I waaaant my eyes to not be swallen D:
And whoah, it's actually pretty scary how you people also tried it? when I told my friends, some of them told me they had experienced something similar, I thought stuff like that never happened here..

That was actually super stupid of you. You're lucky we were all relatively normal. And.. were there 5 of us? I thought it was just 4.

Aw, at least you're "relatively" ok :/
    Hope you get better <3

I live in some safe suburbs, but if I was living in a city, I'd never walk in the streets alone and definitely not without a weapon of some sorts.

Well carrying weapons are always nice..but what happens if you're carrying a knife, and the attacker over powers you AND hurt you with your own knife? If you're weak, bringing anything won't help, and also depends on the guy who attacks and how well built he is.

It's really all about reaction time. If you're weak, but move quickly, and can anticipate other people's reactions, then it doesn't matter so much.

This thing with carrying a knife, though: how are you going to feel when you use it? Personally, if my safety's threatened, I have no problem injuring someone. But if you're inexperienced with a knife, there's a rather large chance that you're going to do serious damage, and you're going to have to live with that. There are enough major arteries alone that you stand a fairly good chance of nicking something, and if you're not going to be able to stomach leaving someone in critical condition, crippled or dead, you shouldn't be carrying a knife at all, especially without knowing how to use it quite well.
