In my opinion a child is an 'it' until it shows male or female organs.

Because dude we're discussing the veracity of a book not the gender of an actual child.

    Backreading does wonders.

Well, I bought this book a while ago but hadn't read it yet so I sat down last night and did just that. I think it's true, which is really sad. What I don't understand is how at the end of the book it said that his was considered the third worst ever case of child abuse in California. How do you gauge something like that?

No way did he make that up. I know it's hard to believe this is happening in the world but sadly it couldn't be CLOSER to the truth.

I already assumed he'd proved himself as did he not become a pilot or similar, some really good well paid profession? I remember reading a profile of his in the newspaper when the book first came out. Surely he didnt need to make millions from his experiences... though I suppose it would be an ultimate sticking up of two fingers at his mother?

i dont think anyone deserves to die, however i do think there should have been something done about the mother...not about the father though, if u read the book u can see how much of a compromising position and i know ppl say its as easy as just picking them up and leaving but its not as simple as that...i did think the dad was a t*t but i felt sorry for him all the same

It's all very well for us to read it and go "Oh his Dad should have done this, and should have done that", but realistically put yourself in his position. His mum was a freaking psychopath.

But he should have done more. Despite self preservation.

What I want to know, is why is mother went from a caring person to an alcoholic slave driver.

    Graet book though.

(technically gravedigging I know but I have something I want to say and i'm not starting a new topic because then it's just spamming)

I don't think this book is made up due to the fact that it's very believeable. Though he may of made a lot of money off this book I think an author who was making up a story would of put more drama on it or just sold it as fiction it wouldn't make the book any less harrowing because we all know that child abuse happens. Strangely the person I felt the most sympathy for was the careworker. When she fell over I felt like crying because she had been trying so hard to bring that awful woman to court.
