Defineatly, we're only one galaxy and there's thousands of galaxies out there, so there has to be others..

    YAY 1000th post :D :D :D

Even if they're humans or "aliens" there could be bacteria or germs etc out there, which will one day turn into something significant

Or there could be a civilization somewhere where the life forms are in some ways more advanced then we are.

On Mars, the two rovers out there, found life, bacteria, not inteligent life, like most people want, but it's still life that exists on another planet, other than earth.. who knows what that bacteria could do, it could cure cancer, it's along shot, but never know.

i have to say there is some life somewhere within our galaxy. Its just going to take a long time to probably find it though

If we could invent something that goes the speed of light... we've got alot more on our hands then thinking about traveling to pluto

We're talking about time travel now... Yes... it is possible to travel forward in time. Or should I say.. It could be possible.

    But staying on topic.

I am not religious at all. I believe in evolution. Im sketchy on the whole big bang thing

I love astronomy too! Its so... wonderfull. It fills me with.. questions..

also on the whole bacteria found on mars thing... Im not sure they actually said it was bacteria. They found evidence of bacteria in rock. But not the actual thing.

And about us not knowing what to look for and possibly passing it by... That is exactly what NASA is considering now. They have been looking for life forms that are made of the same stuff as earth life. They think they could have killed any possible life forms with their experiments and are now conducting new ones that rule in the possibility that they are based on other chemical compounds

    Exciting :D

    Im christian too..
and i believe that were not alone in this universe.
i see the video in discovery channel that there is a organism found in mars..
and there are reports of aliens abduction ..

If you look deep into space, that is time travel right there, since light takes a long time to hit our eyes, from space, so you're literally looking back into the past... for instance..

You look at the sun, the light that comes from the sun, and reaches our eyes, takes a total of 8 minutes to leave the sun, and come to earth... if the sun just vanished into thin air, for instance, the we would have 8 minutes before the Earth freezes or dies or whatever outcomes comes. So if you are looking at a Supernova in a far, far galaxy, you are actually looking into the past; that Supernova is probably done, and there are many stars forming as you look at it, in real time, because of it.

My point is, since light takes so long in space to hit us, we are looking into the past when we look up into the sky at night, minus the moon, because that takes 1.2-1.4 seconds to reach our eyes :p

The thing with Mars is that although we have the water, we've found no organic compounds to suggest life. Just the evidence of bacteria isn't the same.

And the time travel thing is an awesome possibility, but I still don't understand how traveling the speed of light could help us achieve that?

I vote yes, perhaps not a civilisation but some form of life definatly. I dont think we should travel back in time. Look what happened to Homer Simpson when he did.

Time travel is a very easy concept when dealing with light, the only problem with achieving time travel, is that fact we do not know how to harness the speed of light, and use it for whatever we want. I think if we wanted to, it could be achieved, but I don't think any of us posting, will be alive when this happens, lol.

If we could travel, at the speed of light, it's 100% possible to travel back in time (as posted in my previous post), but to reach such places as the beginning of the universe, that would take at least 20,000 light years, and if we travel at the speed of light, it would still take 20,000 human years to get there, so some things ARE impossible, because of human life constraints, unless we found a way to travel FASTER than the speed of light...

xD Well I think there are a few of us here on earth who are a bit more intelligent than homer simpson.

Also, if the future brings time travel, have people time traveled back to our time?

It is a very supported fact today that time is not relative. Time is not the same everywhere.

Astronaughts that travel into space with their watches sincronized with those here on earch come back a second or 2 behind. So basically they time traveled a second or 2 into the future.

The faster you go, the more you will go ahead of time.

If we could go the speed of light, we would need only to go out and come back... perhaps 3 days for the travelers and have gone mabey a hundred years into the future.

There is life out there. Perhaps other civilizations, mabey they have already figured this stuff out, while we are just beginning to

I'm still having a hard time grasping the time traveling concept. One component of it would def be traveling at the speed of light but wouldn't we need a way to direct our traveling into the past? Note, I haven't researched any speed of light details so mabey I'm missing out on the obvious?

as the years pass by we will live in planets.. like saturn
because when the sun becomes hotter the ice in saturn melts.. and the whole saturn will be water world.. and Nasa has a plan to make a living planet like ours.
And the NASA will make a probe that cleans the air in the mars. it suck dirty reddish air and turn it into clean...

Everyone who looks up into the night sky, right now, with a telescope or with their very own naked eye, is looking into the past. Let me try to explain it easy for everyone, as best as I can.

Say, you are looking into the Eagle Nebula with your telescopes, you see breathtaking views and wish you could see it in person. Well, the Eagle Nebula is 7,000 light years away from the Earth, meaning it takes light, which is insanely fast (over 9 quadrillion, yes quadrillion, kilometers a second) 7,000 human years to reach our eyes.
    [IMG][IMG]
Now, since it takes 7,000 years for us to see it, right now, as I type this up, the nebula actually, could in fact, be collapsed into a Black Hole, could be exploding into a Supernova, or since the interstellar gas (the gas pillars) is dense enough to collapse under its own weight, it could be forming young stars that continue to grow as they accumulate more and more mass from their surroundings right now. But since it takes 7,000 years for the light radiating from this system, we wont know what is happening RIGHT NOW in that nebula, for another 7,000 years.. humans can't wait that long to see what is happening, lol. Still confused? Well, let me try to make it more simpler. As I previously posted, the Sun in our solar system, takes roughly, 8 minutes for it's light to reach our Earth, so when we look at the Sun (with very strong glasses I hope, don't wanna burn your eyes :S) you are looking 8 minutes into the past. This is time travel back to the past.

As for time traveling to the future, this could apply as well, but you'd have to be smarter than me to know how to work that out, 'cause I don't know how we could use light to go into the future, unless it means traveling to the Sun in 1 second from Earth, that would mean you're 8 minutes ahead of everyone on Earth.. but that's a sucky time travel. lol. I hope I cleared it up for you.

i dont think the thing about saturn is true. although the ice on saturn will melt saturn is made up of mostly harmful gasses (harmful to us). but if humans adapted to that type of gas over a long period of time perhaps we can ive on that planet

    hehe

    kinda a wierd thing.

When I was little I used to play that I was from saturn. Me and my friend. lol

The travel into the future thing:

All you would really have to do is circle the earth really. Or go far out and come back in... the only important thing is that you are going fast. Speed is what "suppossedly" time is composed of.

    According to Einstein
