So I got 1 sword of skarsden + gk bomb for damage. Ftab + hanso charm for defence. Purple Scorchstone for healing. And I have just got a H4000 helm from a friend as a freezer. I am missing something here?

If you want damage now, sell the SoS, buy a Kelpbeard's Trident (KBT). It's cheaper and same (or almost) number of icons. The VPots/PPots are for later stages in battling 1p opponents, as they get stronger the more you win them

Hiya, I'm trying to get the lab ray scientist as a battledome player.. i've tried refreshing at the lab ray countless times (you cant imagine) and I still havent got him. x( I really need my pet to change genders. Any advice?
Which page at the lab ray have you been refreshing at? You need to refresh at: http://www. neopets.com/lab2.phtml If you're desperate for a gender change without the scientist, you can buy a strange potion and use it on your pet. No idea how much they're going for these days, but they're R99 so good luck with that.
Are you refreshing at the right lab page? (I think it's the one where you choose your pet to zap) If you are, try just using an auto-refresher and just leaving it there, checking your 1p opponents once in a while for the new BD challenger. I recommend using firefox and the extension called 'ReloadEvery'. As for commy's suggestion of using a strange potion, they sell for ~1m, if you can find one for sale.
If you're playing 1P, there are alternatives to 100% freezers such as the snowglobe staff which has a lower percentage. If it's 1p, you just need to use it and if it doesn't freeze on the first turn that means you just need to refresh and try again, healing if necessary. As for ghostkerbomb, if a 100% freezer is a must, there are also alternatives that aren't as strong but cheaper (e.g Honey Potion)
Thanks Commy for answering the question. For some reason I missed it. I feel though, buying a GBomb is better. A freezer, to me isn't a first priority item in a BD Set. A GBomb can kill, a freezer can't. As for autorefreshers, just make it refresh every 1-2 seconds and leave it for like 10 minutes
I see, what league would be good for a beginner... just to get used to strategy etc etc. Or would it be better for me to just go in at the deep end and learn as I go?
Alright, thanks, I will do some more research into it, I really want to find a nice league and active guild where I can battle. Always been a 1 player battle.
Wait you're only focusing on 1player battling or ? If you are, there's not much point to be maxing out on a particular league...
Start in L4/5. That's the league you can learn stuff in. Join a BD guild, try LoTA. Higher leagues = higher battledome set budgets = you won't know why you lose
