You hate having advertisements shoved in your face? Why do you have the watch/look at/listen to them? You act like you have no choice, which you quite obviously do.

I'm just so sick of people moaning about such ridiculous things. "I hate this, I hate that, blah blah blah.." There are many people in situations where they would wish that this was something they could waste time and energy moaning about.

Also, as was mentioned earlier, unless you sit on your own over the holiday period, buy no gifts, receive no gifts and treat the period exactly as you would any other, don't even bother complaining. If you partake in the event, don't even bother trying to make out that you're above it because you disagree with adverts or whatever. Hypocrisy is another of our societies problems and you are displaying it fantastically. I thank you for that and hope you have a really merry Christmas when it finally arrives, as I'm sure you will regardless of everything you have just said :D

They aren't starting early. It always starts this time of year, every year. And people complain about it at this time of year, every year and act as if they are saying something no one else has thought of when, in fact, they are probably just quoting something they heard last year ;)

I like wal-mart having low prices and you can get pretty much anything in 1 store... but they are a little excessive when it does come to holidays

its not complaining. Its analyzing. If we don't discuss and think about what is happening then we aren't in control of our environment

Unfortunately as much as it annoys me I have to eat...and go to work. Really I wouldn't have to work if I didn't have to eat, but I digress. My point is at some point you, me everyone has to leave our houses and we lose the ability to fully control our environments. Honestly there are some ways around this if you are rich I suppose but I can't afford to stay home all day and have my stuff delivered from the net to my house. Even though I don't watch TV much, or use air radio stations I can't stop the car next to me or the crap I have to get through to read my comics for example. I mean really technically if I tried hard enough I could eliminate 99% of advertisements but the means is just overboard, like really overboard.

You're joking right? Starving kids in Uganda is a pretty lame justification for or against anything we do in America. And I'm bitching about one thing. America's overboard consumer mentality, specifically as it pertains to the Christmas season. Humans by nature judge happiness/wealth/success relatively. That's not to say it fits for everyone but really beyond some vague desire I have no idea what Bill Gates life is like or what's it's like to really starve in the dirt. I do know I'd love a brand new car though because I can see what that's like within my life. In the same way if you really believe starving kids in some 3rd world country should be the measure of our problems then perhaps you should move there and help them like Mother Teresa did the leppers.

I'm very confused here. How does receiving a gift from a family member mean I should be ok with havening to go through 2 months of silliness. Am i supposed to be rude to them because I hate American commercialism? When is it ever a rule that Christmas means this or that, especially since Santa Clauses red+white suite is barely 100 years old. Social events evolve constantly and sadly I feel it's currently taking a turn for the worse. I'm not against advertising, stores have to make money. I'm against watching 4min of football for example and 6 commercial breaks. Or the same exact Christmas commercial 2x in the same commercial break for 3 breaks in a row. Or Christmas stuff being sold the second October ends.

You know we can have an original thought...even if someone else is thinking the exact same thing. You assume so much without any justification but your own life, that's a horrible habit. Christmas "cheer" didn't "always start this time of year" unless you are still relatively young. And even if the prior isn't the case it changes nothing. We have a rite to be dissatisfied with the current trends and with what you said in your first post I'm surprised you find nothing wrong with how Christmas is treated in mass. Again this has nothing at all to do with what you do personally...one doesn't necessarily equal the other. I can hate all the bs out in public and love Christmas at home and with family.

Jesus' birthday in the bible is on chirstmas, yes.

But it was also the sun god of zoasterism creation date.

There was no bright stars on dec 25 in the year jesus was supposed to be born.

Christmas is basically a big marketing campaign and great to capitalize on.

    So ha.

im excited for christmas. i start buying my christmas presents at all the after-christmas sales, and buy a little here and there throughout the year so its pretty much done by thanksgiving. then i dont have to fight crowds and buy expensive crap all at once, and i can just enjoy the season. works out pretty good :)

I went into a local target the day after halloween. And sure enough inflateable christmas yard decorations, trees you name it. Seems like a waste marketing it so early, because by the time christmas does come around people could care less about special bargains etc. Not to mention that it seems Thanksgiving is left in the dust these days. Pretty soon they will just have christmas stuff for sale year round. Or atleast it wouldnt surprise me ><
