You can use an external hard disk drive so memory is null either way. RAM on a laptop is on par with most desktops

Most desk top monitors are LCD flatscreens now days anyway so breaking either is just as easy...just don't drop your lap top.

Performance is cheaper on the desktop but with money you can get a lap where the difference to the best desktop is irrelevant.

Comfort really depends on your chair.

    Laptop:

    Mobility

    Desktop:

    Price
    Power
    Component Upgrade

The worst thing about a laptop is the fact you cant upgrade the graphics.

if they are in the same family there is some flexibility with the video card

    it's about a 50/50 for most models

I use desk computers and enjoy them more though laptops would be handy..if you had a mouse for it. (seriously, that touch pad gives me headaches. Ugh, so annoying.)

Laptop for sure. But it really depends on your personal lifestyle. If you travel a lot or like to carry your computer around campus a lot or something like that, then a laptop wins hands down.
I love using my laptop around my house, like at the balcony when the weathers nice or in bed when I don't feel like sitting at a desk.

I reckon that desktops should be your main power 'base' at home, the one with behemoth storage, ram etc etc whilst laptops are for portable use like work etc.
If you try and hybrid mobility and performance into a laptop, it'll probaly get too big to lug around everyday, thus just staying on your desk like a desktop - only it costed more.
Though you cant ignore what the guy above me said, being able to just sit on your balcony with it and chill.. thats nice :yup:

    Desktop

++: costs less, you can modify every single part of it, you can choose the monitor you prefer, it has more storage / cpu power / gpu power
--: it has loads of wires, you can't move it

    Laptop

++: it's a laptop! You can bring it where you want :) plus it has a battery and you can move it around without any wire
--: less powerfull then a Desktop, costs more

It depends on you. If you want to easy upgrade a system... definitely desktop but if you want something that you can carry all around the answer is laptop... What every you want, it depend on how do want it...

I cant stand laptops. You can't do anything normally, espcially because of the delicate keyboard. I need a desk computer to do any sort of gaming/chatting.

desktop for recreation because of memory, size, the fact that it won't break if you get angry and hammer your keyboard for a second...

laptop for work. handiness, ability to tote it around...
my dad actually has 3 laptops. he's a dork.
