I use my laptop all the time, but I do miss using my desktop. It's still in my storage room and I haven't found time yet to set it up.
If you need your computer to do homework and work outside your house, obviously a laptop. But, if you doesn't need all of these, a desktop will be great, they can be really greats.
Mid-high end laptop > almost all desktops IMO. Mobility is of critical importance -- especially for a student -- and mid-high end laptops can do most of the tasks that desktops can do, if not all.
I prefer laptops over desktops. If you're a student, you'll definitely find the mobility offered by laptops to be very important specially when you need to research something ASAP, in presentations, etc. IMO desktops are only good if you want to play games that are demanding graphic-wise because you can change a desktop's parts very easily compared to laptops. Otherwise, for school/work stuff laptops are the way to go.
I love laptops but unfortunelty unless it's an alienware most can't really play high graphical games. so desktop for me.
Desktops are far superior for gaming and other graphics-heavy tasks but laptops are much more convenient for just surfing the web and playing Neopets and stuff like that. I can just lounge on my couch and restock or whatever.
I prefer desktop, but I still like the laptop, as you can lay around with it, and have it on the couch and such. Desktop... not so much.
Desktop for high-performance stuff like gaming and programming and everything else; laptop for mobility, internet stuffs, and lightweight apps.
I prefer a laptop, mainly because I do all of my uni work at lots of different places. So, I guess the answer is laptop for mobility.
The only thing good about a laptop is that it's portable, although when you're charging it, it basically loses that attribute and becomes useless.
