Heh, the best ones are the ones easily manipulated >D if you're lucky the whole class will silently agree to cheat the substitute so no one'll get homework. ..I miss middle school
I assume this is all high school we are talking about? Not like University or anything, because I don't think there are any dumb University level teachers (at least in the subject they are teaching...they could be dumb in general) But yeah, there are definitely dumb teachers in high school. I don't know if any of you guys have talked to teachers before about what it's like to teach, but it's pretty easy and straightforward these days. If the class has a textbook, then the publishers will usually send sample tests, sample homeworks, sample lesson plans with pre-made powerpoint presentations included that coincide with the book, etc...so there's not a whole lot that the teacher has to worry about
Eh, I don't think it's possible to have dumb teachers as long as the people who hire the teachers are at least decently smart. I don't think I've ever had a dumb teacher.
It probably also has to do with the school system and type of school that one attends...I went to an average public school, which had its fair share of dumb teachers
At university level I think it's pretty impossible to find a dumb lecturer but in high school it's pretty damn easy. I've had lots of teachers I disliked some because of teaching style and some because to put it bluntly they were dumb. Some people go into teaching because that is the career they want to do, others fail at what they wanted to do and then just teach. This tends to happen a lot when it comes to journalists, lawyers, psychiatrists ect. because they are competitive fields so the worst of the fields fail at what they wanted to do and become teachers. I have yet to find a good physics teacher it must be hard to find good physics teachers because if they were any good at the subject they would be making a whole lot of money instead of teaching.
Absolutely!!! Many city schools are unaccredited. Constant failure in testing score is proof of bad teaching practices, or teachers incapable of figuring out how to get them to learn. If that isn't stupid I don't know what is.
Oh yes it is. My old spanish teacher was "dumb" We had a test thursday and we were going over and grading it the next day as a class. And while were going over the first question shes like oh I didn't teach you guys this. Next question oh we didn't go over this. Next question oh did we do this? So we ended up throwing the test out and the only thing we did the whole year was listen to ave maria and have parties since my class and mostly me could just like control the whole class and she didn't care as long as we gave her cake.
hmmm jus as i blieve that there are no dumb students.. i oso tink that there are no dumb teachers. sum teachers arent doing a good job as others prolly bcos they dont know how.. or sum are jus too lazzee to improve, cos they feel comfortable in their comfy zones. Sum teachers care for their students the wrong way n in the end it reflects badly on themselves. but at the end of the day, being a teacher isnt easy and sumtimes we as students shld give our teachers a break man. if u have brothers or sisters at home, tink about the frustrations that u feel looking after them for a day or 2.. now tink about ur teacher who has to manage a class of 30-40 of such students. gosh. i realli dunno how they handle it man. bud so far i can sae that im quite blessed to meet alot of good teachers in my life..they truly deserve my upmost respect
Yes, yes I do. Do not even get me STARTED on the subject. You think that I've written essays before...there's like, a 60000 character limit. I'd shatter it. Twice. I have at least 10 relatives in various school boards, including both my parents. I have had a very indepth look into our school system. There are dumb teachers, no doubt about it, but they aren't the problem. It's the self-serving - let's just leave this little part of the sentence off a public forum, as I think that we've had enough cake lately - jerks who run the boards. And our corrupt curriculum. And the biased, lazy - cake, anyone? - scoundrels who have done enough buttkissing to get themselves into positions of power so that they can make peoples' lives miserable and feel good about themselves are individuals. Dumb teachers let it all go right over their heads, and that's why they're a problem - because they don't know enough about the problem to begin to solve it.
I don't really think "dumb" teacher is the proper adjective. I would probably say bad teacher. Some dumb people can be awesome teachers, some highly intelligent people can be horrible teachers. It all depends on your teaching style and how you connect to the students.
I agree a hundred percent. When I said "dumb" I didn't mean clasically unintelligent, either. I meant oblivious...like, there are very smart teachers who haven't the slightest idea what's going on, and there are teachers who are more there because they care about the students, and they just scraped through teachers' college and only got the job because they're friends with the superintendant but who actually know things about the way life works. That's one of the biggest lessons that you need to learn as a student - what's going on in life. Because high school may seem crucial, and it may be the bane of your existance for four years, but it's not how the world works, no matter what anyone tells you.
Alright, when you say it that way its more clarified. I however do not understand what you are talking about when you said Any teacher has to have the proper qualifications to be a teacher regardless if they're friends with a superintendent or not. College is hard and it is pretty impossible to "scrape" through teachers academy because there are set GPA requirements. And if they are there because they care about the students then thats a good thing.
I got offered a job as a french teacher straight out of high school. My school board back home is pretty much all like that - if you have friends in high places... And I know someone who didn't finish high school, went back to teachers college later in life and get her teaching certificate. How's that for a loophole? And I know that it's a good thing that teachers care about the students. It just highlights the fact that there are loads of teachers who don't care, and so they don't look any deeper than the surface. But the thing is that teachers who actually care about the students may be looked upon as classically dumb - there are several reasons for it, that I am just too tired to list.
So you're saying that every math teacher in every grade of every school across the world is dumb? If that's the case, then the human race has made some downright impossible mathematical discoveries in its history. Euclid and Geometry, Newton and Calculus, Einstein and relativity, they all had to have had some pretty decent teachers. In my 13 years of school, I have had one math teacher that I would consider truly dumb, in literal terms of IQ. In that same span, I've had about 4 english teachers I would consider dumb. I'm not saying all english teachers are dumb, but in my experience they are more likely to be dumb than math teachers.
You don't get teachers that are dumb, but you have many that cannot teach. Teachers are evaluated to ensure that they can actually teach but then there are some that wriggle through the net lol. Take my dad (not that he is a teacher) for example, he is excellent at Maths but he really can't teach somebody else, he gets fustrated if you don't understand etc etc. My old Maths teacher simply couldn't be bothered with anything . Though as a result of his lazyness he just passed us all  . So yeah just reading purely from books is a lazy teaching method in my opinion but I'm sure the teacher actually knows thier stuff.
Of course it is. In freshmen year in highschool, all my science teacher did was make us watch videos and do worksheets. It was sooo boring
