i come from a conservative family and i kinda torn between yes or no. I believe naturally marriage should be between opposite sex but i think it is also about two people who love each other.

I think banning gay marriages is just serperating the line more. If people didn't make such a big deal about this topic, then it would be normal.

This is the question most often asked by people who lack a proper understanding of the topic.*

The line is drawn at "reasonable and informed consent". You see, marriage (and sex) between a man and a woman is legal provided they are both consenting participants. Marriage and sex between an adult and a minor is not legal because, as a minor, the law judges one of the participants to be unable to make an informed decision. Marriage and sex between humans and animals is illegal for the same reason; animals cannot give informed consent. Nor can a lamp, for that matter. It may indeed be possible for a man to love his dog or his lamp, but the dog or the lamp cannot reciprocate in a way that is reasonable to assume as understanding.

Two adult men or two adult women, however, are capable of making an informed decision, and it is morally reprehensible, in my opinion, to deny them the opportunity to do as they wish.

Polygamy is difficult ground. There are more inherent problems with the legality of polygamy. However, it is still a choice between participants and provided all are informed and consenting, it is difficult to justify its illegality.

*Note that I don't mean to insult you, I intend only to state that it is a very common argument presented by opponents of gay marriage and is highly flawed when presented as such.

I think it's fine as long as it isn't flaunted(For the record, not being homophobic, I hate it when anyone flaunts their relationship in public. Save it for behind closed doors, people.)

I was totally unaware that "love knows no bounds" could ever mean that it crossed from one species to another, or included loving lifeless objects. =op I love my ipod. I love my pets. But not like that. That kind of love is a different kind of problem. There really isn't a line left to draw unless you want to start fighting for the rights of polygamists.

I have no problem with two men getting hitched, or two women! If they're productive members of society, law abiding citizens like the rest of us, I don't feel it's my right to keep them apart, to prevent them from building a future together. I don't think it'll eventually be the end of humanity, either.. that's just some extremely ignorant scare tactic.... and I won't turn this into more of a religious debate.

A gay merriage, eeewwww nooo!!! Gay marriage is ok though :p

Honestly what does it matter that two people get married? It isn't harming society, and I think stopping it is putting a stop to our society's growth. Some religious view points really begin to hold our species back.

I think it's fine I have a bunch of gay and lesbian friends and they don't bother me at all. It's only a problem because people make it that way and don't like things that are different. I noticed that religious people also have big problems with it like some of you said. So just have to get rid of there hardcore beliefs and everything would be easier.

My personal opinion: personal opinions don't matter on this issue, how you feel about gay marriage doesn't mean anything

a marriage ceremony is a religious ceremony - it should be handled strictly through churches (marriage licenses are a very recent thing in our history for example)

I think that if government got out of the whole deal and left it to churches as it's been done for a very long time we would be fine. Some churches might be fine with gay marriage, and that's ok, but it's not the governments job to decide anything like this..

I feel it's fine but as far as gay rights it should stop there.

Obama recently added homosexuals to the people you can get charged with a Hate Crime for, which is good and all considering some of the events that have taken place in the past, but beyond stuff like marriage, hate crimes, and military service, I think the brakes should be slammed.

If I ever see homosexuals getting affirmative action benefits (which I ALREADY strongly disagree with) or getting loaded with 'minority scholarships' I will flip out. They deserve equal rights. Not benefits.

honestly, I think in the future it will end up being reverse discrimination against your average person because they won't have all the benefits of minorities or special groups (not that I don't mind Native Americans having the money to pay for my college hehe)

but with the government I think it comes down to taxes, if two people live together, raise children together, and want to file as married because in their hearts and minds they are--why should the government discriminate against them if they just so happen to be of the same gender? They should be able to legally prove they are married and get the tax breaks for it.

It is just like how some states have laws against certain sexual acts. If it isn't public it shouldn't matter and just because you see two guys or chicks kissing they shouldn't get their panties in a twist.

People are just so overbearing with their opinions of what is right when it comes to the bedroom, they should just butt out of it and let people live their lives happily without fear of persecution.

I mean, are homosexual really hurting anyone by getting married? They are together anyway.. it's not like we can prevent them from being together by banning their marriage.

    Think about it this way.
If a man had a sex change THEN married a man, society would think it's okay as it's a man and a woman.
However, I think people have more of a thing about not liking sex changes than gay marriages.
So if nobody likes sex changes, then it's better to marry as you already are, and if that means that it's a gay marriage, that's fine.

    I'm confused now D:

    Haha I'm confused too :p

I think the general public are always going to find something wrong. I'm pretty sure a sex change and gay marriage is about in the same book for society though.

To each their own. Its no skin off me who they're doing, male, female, whatever. Live, love and enjoy, as long as everyone is in agreement and nobody is getting hurt, what ever turns your crank.
