And you're basing that on what? What? You got to be kidding me. The average life span of a "green" lightbulb as you call it is far higher than your average lightbulb and it takes far less energy to light up. Why would the companies want us (the consumers) to buy less than we already do? As for hybrid cars, I don't really like the fact that you're able to change between gasoline and biodiesel. If you were to convert your car to run on vegtable oil only, or water, or air, it would also be cheaper for you (the consumer) to drive. Yeah, finding new, cheaper and better technologies might just be a way to make money for the companies. But it's the consumers that are demanding this and we're the one who they have to obey to get their products sold. So I really don't get your point. You're complaining about there being cheaper products developed?
It's not a matter of not using energy, because we do need to use it, it's about how we can conserve it, and use it efficiently.
i completely agree that we NEED an alternative fuel. but the thing is, will the entire world be able to change before we go to the point of no return?. plus if we were running out of oil, would the world have enough time to create an alternate energy source?
I pretty much agree with what's been already said (that we need to be more cautious about what we do to the environment, though giving up energy isn't practical) and frankly I fully expect the scientists to bail us out. (as per usual... ironic that America is historically so anti-intellitectual) I lol'd at the way you said this though. The point you make is valid, but the way you phrase/exaggerate it is sort of funny. Guess how many humans would be on the earth right now if CO2 didn't exist. I'm gonna go with, zero.
We already have many alternative eneregy sources, and there is technology developed on how to use these. It's just that people aren't satisfied with the maximum speed of these cars. Even if it's cheaper to drive, and they won't be going more than 80 km/h, they still want to be able to reach a higher maximum speed. And that's where the problem's at. Well if you look at many of the big cities, you'll notice that the air isn't as clean as it should be and that people are actually getting sick because of it. On Stockholm's most trafficated road, Hornsgatan, people have been putting up white sheets as a protest against the air pollution. It didn't take long time before those sheets had turned grey. Also, I was a bit tipsy when I wrote that post.
If only the studies about cold nuclear fusion where not dismissed by governments and the other people who actually gain money from oil... :nope:
The concept is great, and maybe in fifty or a hundred years we'll be able to utilize that. But to the best of my knowledge, cold fusion is highly experimental, non reliable, and pretty much a huge foray into the unknown. I would tentatively add an "as of now" after all those though.
From what I studied and from what I heard, I always thought that cold fusion was only an utopia too... but recently I've read and seen videos about the studies happened in 1989 and Italian studies in the 2002 that truly let me agape! Pons' and Fleischmann's researchs were pretty known yet, but I never heard before about Carlo Rubbia's experimentsin the ENEA organization... and I'm Italian! The fact has been hidden by who gain hiding these facts... 'cause cold fusion is a limitless (in the real meaning of the word) source of energy, that anyone could in a not so far future, possess in their own houses... I've found this pages in English =) This is the report about the experiment http://www.lenr-canr.org/acrobat/DeNinnoAexperiment.pdf And here http://jlnlabs.online.fr/cfr/index.htm, the explanations of other experiments that confirm that cold fusion is POSSIBLE and relatively simple to realize. But you know why all these things are hidden, right?
If anyone is interested, the movie "Changing Climate, Changing Times" is probably one of the best movies about the climate change there is. So if you're going to watch something about the topic, I suggest you watch that film. It takes you through some people's lives in the year 2075, the Sahara desert now covering the enitre North Africa leaving a young man no other choice but to travel to Europe, daughter Julia in a line of wine farmers and her struggle to keep the vines alive from locausts, water shortage and heat, the zoologist Niels and his encounter with the last polarbear that was thought to have been extincted and his wife who are trying to get all the countries of the world to sign a treaty against waisting water and find a solution to pussle the world back together. It's really a great movie.
i think it has sumthing to do with the ice age aswell, ice ages take thousands of years and we are still in the last part of the last ice age. Still though all this pollution we create can't be good for anything.
global warming is a bunch of bull every hundred thousand years or so the earth goes thru warming and coooling periods hence ice ages earht is just going thru one of those stages now
global warming which is techincally called global climate change (i hated IB enviromental systems) is a bunch of crap. i'm not saying that tempetures can't rise. i am saying they can fall and then they can rise again. the earth has been around for millions of years with different tempetures, for us to look at a 100 year period. pretend its wednesday and its 75 degrees out and tommorrow its 70. can i say the ice age is comming?
global warming is real. it will get hotter and hotter, and maybe in a few centuries, millenia, who cares, it'll start to cool down again. there's nothing we really can do about it, though we are stupid for the whole ozone depletion thing. sure, the fact that we overpopulated the earth and are emitting greenhouse gases constantly does help to heat up faster, but it was inevitable from the start. the earth changes, and either we change with it or we die.
personally, i think its BS. Fell free to argue, but its been proven that earth goes through natural heating and cooling phases, some times faster then other. No matter how much more its gone up from last year, i still think its just the earth going through its normal phases, sure, we might be hurting a little, but i think global warming is over reacted.
Here's a way of looking at it... I think the way of looking at it that every parent should have been teaching every child.... The problem is, I think, most people can only think in sizes and terms that are evident in their own lives. So you need to put it in easy-to-understand terms. I think teachers should make a comparison between a car, a house, and the planet..... what happens if you sit in a car and pipe in exhaust? You die. Why? Because you destroyed your air supply in a tiny sealed unit. Suppose you live in an airtight house. All windows and doors sealed - nothing gets in or out. Eventually you'd run out of oxygen but you have plants breathing in your CO2 and giving you more back so you're good. But what if someone burned biscuits in the oven and smoke was just pouring out into your house non-stop? And at the same time someone was spraying can after can of hairspray into every room? Eventually you'd be choking. Sometime after that, if nothing changed, you'd die. Because even though a house is bigger than a car, you were in a sealed unit and your air supply was destroyed. Now here's the thing - the Earth is just a big house. It's a sealed unit. There's this thing called the atmosphere... that's our trapped-in gases. On one side is us and everything that keeps us alive, and on the other side of the atmosphere is cold, empty space. The cold death and vacuum of space doesn't get in, and our oxygen and nitrogen and so on doesn't just go drifting away. Now it's much easier to dirty up a car than a whole house and much easier to destroy the air supply in it because it's smaller. By the same token, it's much much easier to dirty up a house than it is to dirty up the whole planet by throwing your cigarette butts and McDonalds bags out the car window and much easier to kill the air supply in a house than in an entire planet.... but there's no difference in the end result. It is sealed - finite - not unlimited - and if you're abusive enough to your living space, eventually you're going to destroy it and yourself.
that's a really good way of putting it so people can understand. i've been "blessed" with slower classes and education because of no child left behind, but if i had no prior knowledge of atmospheric conditions and all that, i would be utterly confused by the poorly-worded curriculum. very simple, and yet very accurate as well.
I actually don't believe much of the global warming. The Earth's temperature has been fluctuating a lot, even in the last few thousand years. During the Middle Ages the temperature was higher than now, overall. So that's my view on it.. Even though I do think we should cut down on cars and other polluting stuff.
