The fact that a new avvie hasn't been released in years in terrible.. that doesn't even take much effort on their part.. they are just getting lazy..

Viacom bought the company for loads basically for the credit of owning it, and now have literally killed the site. It's been turned into a site for 5 year olds. They obviously couldn't even be bothered to check with age group they were targeting. And for goodness sake. At least GIVE the players to option to keep their pet Converted or Unconverted!

Agreed. I wonder what the ages of the people playing neopets are. I think I'd be surprised with how many mature/old/teens play it, in comparison to children from the ages of 5-12.

Younger children don't even like it. What 5-12 year old in the modern world would want to just be restricted to feeding and playing with their pets 10 hours a week? And their parents probably can't even be bothered to sign the consent form. A lot of the players are those who joined the sites when that kind of thing was completely new, and have stuck faithfully with it. I mean, I'm 11 and the 'feeding and playing with' aspect does not appeal to me. It's more of the challenges, chatting with others, making Userlookups etc. etc. that appeal more, and can little kids do that? Noo.

I agree. Their target players may be younger children and tweens. However, they usually come and go. The main heart and core of the Neopets population is made of older teenagers, college students, and older. Those that actually under stand how to run a business, or how to sell/trade. There are parts of Neopets that are just too complex for any child to even have a hope of grasping.. and they have a few older person targets, but it's mainly competitions like the Lenny Conundrum or the such. But I don't know any 7 year old who can sit there refreshing for hours and snag some awesome RS...

Nope. They would have no patience, would they? And recently I saw a Neopets Ad in my 3 year old sister's Cbeebies magazine. -sigh-

Well, so did I. I started playing when I was around 4? Not properly of course. But the problem is some kids don't have the capacity of all this. What kid of 5 would know what a stock market is?!

    An unusually bright one :)

I agree, and that's where the problem is. Either Neopets doesn't know this, or they do know this and they don't do anything about it...

    Both scenarios are both bad.

The point I think both of us are getting to is that Viacom is bad o.o
They just decide to bob out of the blue and buy a popular site, and advertise it on their website like bling. Then they make it totally rubbish, making it so childish. I thought market research would have been important but no! It obviously isn't. The most important thing to them is turning Neopets commercial, making maximum profit out of a site created by two freshly graduated University students at the time, and that's not mentioning doing a bad job of it! Viacom are totally unpopular.

That is so true! I wish they had stuck to A and D's original plan, but even they were asked to leave quietly - and they are locked out of their accounts! If people knew A and D left when they did, so many people would have followed suit. All the staff accounts seem fictitious and never accessed.

Yeah. However, Snarkie is always out there. She lurks even more than I do, and pops on random boards through out the year. But the staff is much less hands out these days for sure. They seem more content to just be that random programmer behind the computer screen as opposed to come out into the community and getting to know everyone, or at least let their presence be known. I always thought it was cool to chat with the people who were actually running the whole shindig..

Yeah I have a love hate relationship with neopets as I am guessing most of us here do for the simple fact if we hateded it that much we really wouldn't be playing. I started playing quite a while back but sadly my main account was iced and I had to start from fresh. But yeah the fun factor has decreased and things do seem more as a chore at times now too!

I have to agree in that the old (unconverted) neopets looked a lot better.
As for the RS system... you get used to it.
